I don't know about one in a 204, but a friend bought one for his daughter in a .243. Well actually traded for it. He for some unknown reason traded at least a $650 gun for this thing with a Tasco scope on it. It's been nothing but a POS since he got it. When they first tried shooting it, it would kick open when you shot and shoot the shell in your face. After lots of cleaning the latch, it finally quit doing this. I looked up a solution online for him and there are lots of others complaining about this also. So I'd not be surprised if the issue comes back. It's not been shot all that much since he got it to stop doing it.
The next issue he had was a shell got stuck in the chamber after shooting maybe a handful of rounds through it and they couldn't get it out. He took it to a gunsmith who got it out and checked the gun out. He found out that the chamber was not cut deep enough from the factory. Or so he claims. So he cut the chamber deeper. They shot it a few times thinking it was fixed. Well, I got to shoot it some a few weeks ago and guess what? Another shell got stuck in the chamber. I got it knocked out of there, but it clearly isn't fixed. I will say, we shot another 20 rounds or so through it and it didn't do it again, so it's not something that happens every shot, just something that happens occasionally. I will say, the gun was decently accurate and that's the only positive thing I can say about it. It was more accurate than what I've read about online, so it does seem to vary by which one you get. It shot about 1.5"-2" groups with Winchester factory loads, and it shot about 1" groups with hand loads. That being said, the Savage I've shot that Walmart sells for $384 with a scope, so not much more shot .8" groups at 100 yards with Federal Power Shok ammo and Winchester Power Points and it shot around .5" groups with the same reloads. So it's not much more, yet a lot more accurate. Not to mention the trigger on the NEF handi rifle is horrible, while the accu trigger on the Savage is very good with almost no creep and can be adjusted fairly light. IMO there is just no comparison between the two guns and the price difference is small.
So when we got home we looked up online to see if we could find a solution to the shells sticking the in the chamber. Instead what we found was a ton of people complaining about the exact same issue, and none of them had a fix. Several of them had polished the chambers, and several had sent theirs back to NEF for repair with it coming back and doing the exact same thing. There just doesn't seem to be a fix for it other than to carry a cleaning rod with you to knock the shells out. Some reported it happening every couple of shots, while some others said it happens every 20-30 shots which is about what this one does. This one has like I said had the chamber worked on, so it doesn't do it as often as it did, but still does it way too often imo.
Overall, there just isn't much good at all to say about this rifle. The fit and finish is also pretty crappy on it, so it's nothing good to say there. On top of him trading a rifle worth about 3x what this pos is worth, his daughter hates it and says she wishes he would have either given her the other rifle or gotten her a bolt action.
After having experience getting to shoot his and witness the problems he has had with it as well as to see the quality of them, I'd not recommend them. Like I said, his also seems to be exceptionally accurate getting 1" groups with hand loads as a lot of reports I saw online seem to claim 2-3" groups. I just don't see why you'd want this when you could get a Savage that will shoot sub moa groups, have a great trigger, and actually work properly for probably the rest of your life, for not much more money.
