Any cool gun tips?

Higher quality Q-tips are really great for getting into the nooks and cranies during cleaning.
The wally world stuff works but a lot of the time the cotton rubs off or the tip falls of completely.

Have ammo cans aplenty, you can use it to store pretty much anything.

Surplus gas mask bags make good range bags.

Great video! And the comment there on adding a foam earplug to the weed whacker line is a winner. Already use the line (obviously) but now I'll add the earplug. Thanks!

Thanks, that tip with the weed whacker line was real popular thank you for that one. On the next video i'll show it again but with the foam. I might put the sock and airsoft bbs, but i don't have enough to fill the sock. Plus other tips.

-Never impulsively buy a gun you haven't researched some first. You may well get ripped off.

-Never clean guns on your wife's favorite rug w/o adequate protection.

-If the part won't come loose, don't just grab a bigger hammer - ask.

-A rubber mallet WILL mar or wear off the bluing of your pretty Ruger very quick.

-Know how your firearm works, inside and out. Never assume someone borrowing your gun knows or remembers everything.

Ask your dentist for his old dental picks - great for various nooks and crannies

use a dryer sheet to wipe out your powder measure to eliminate static

put a small tray under your shotshell reloader to catch powder and shot spills

a used colander works well for filtering cleaning media from your tumbler

NEVER use momma's washer, dryer or dishwasher for anything gun related..:what:

Those are some life saving tips right there

wear I protection when working on guns, or if friends are helping you work on guns. You never know when that little spring will let loose and ruin a good day

Firm tooth brushes work better than nylon cleaning brushes.

Take desiccants out of the pockets of new clothes and store guns long term to absorb excess mosture.

Are those the crystal pouches that come in some some boxes or whatever? I've been told that before and have done it with ammo cans and loose ammo. Is there any rule to using it? Does it have to be taken out of the packets or changed every few months?

Buy irrigation syringes at a medical supply store and fill them with mobil 1 to lube tight areas

For cleaning the gas tube on a SIG556 (or AK, I suppose), get a regular tampon, remove it from the applicator and dunk it into a bottle of solvent. Let it sit for a few minutes, (you can use a clothespin on the string to keep it from falling in) then push it through the tube with a cleaning rod.

If you dunk another tampon, you can open it up, then fold it over once and it makes a great 12-guage bore mop.

Number your magazines with a paint marker, dremel, or engraving pen. Problem mags are easier to identify when you get home from the range.

I use the make-up applicators from CVS.

For the removal of tough leading from a bore, use a copper bore brush one size bigger. It will ruin the brush for it's intended caliber, but will still work for lead removal in the caliber you had trouble with the next time there is build up.

Never try to convince your SO that they are doing it wrong and teach them the right way. It will be a waste of time and she/he will go right back to their way of doing it at the very first opportunity. Unless it is a safety problem of course, then by all means beat it into them with the butt of the gun if need be(figuratively speaking of course, over dramatized to stress the importance of safety).

My gun tip?

Everything time I've ever read "Don't ever ___________" on THR it's been wrong.

For example:
Dont ever:
Buy taurus, use steel cased ammo, etc...

all turned out to be BS

PRO TIP! +1 I shoot steel cased ammo out of my Taurus with no problem!

Old flannel/cotton blend bedsheets work great as lint free rags to wipe/clean guns with, if you get bored they also make pretty good patches after some scissor time. They can be had at a garage sale or resale shop for less than a buck usually.

For guns that shoot corrosive ammo, I've had issues cleaning my M44 every time I shoot corrosive ammo, and usually clean it when I get home, then clean it again the next day, and one more time about 3-5 days later to get everything out. I don't know exactly what's in the Walmart brand oven cleaner for a dollar, but I spray it into the lid to get a pool of it and dip the brushes in it, then run about a dozen patches soaked in it through the bore, then clean it normal with hoppes and oil it and it's good until the next time.

M1 Garand clips work for .270 and .30-06 that I know of.

Just use window cleaner with ammonia.

But I like the oven cleaner, and I forgot to mention it earlier, if you're not careful with the oven cleaner it's so good it'll take the plastic right off of plastic...

I'll give the window cleaner a shot, never tried it before.

Reach over the top and pull up on the top of the ear while inserting the earplug with your other hand. You'll find it works even better.
Varies by person. I pull my earlobes down.
