Any good gun related novels?

OK, the old and the gray and wise is weighing in.

Both of Matt Bracken's (Travis Mcgee) books: Enemies Foriegn and Domestic and the sequel
Domestic Enemies.

Devonai (David Kantrowitz) has a beaut, Reckless Faith.

Last, but not least: Wlecome Back Mr. Nightcrawler.

+1 on Stephen Hunter and Tom Clancy, although I don't know that I would exactly call Tom Clancy books "gun related". Hunter seems to go out of his way to get his facts correct (or at least realistic). And he does seem to write specifically for the gun crowd. Don't particularly care for every Hunter book, but I like most of them pretty well. "Dirty White Boys" is probably my favorite, but it's really represents a gun-guy version of romance book more than it represents a serious evening of reading...

Also, the book on Carlos Hathcock, "Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills" makes for good reading, but as you can see by the tagline, I am (was?) a Marine, so I am biased.

I have to add something else. If you like gunfight stories (And now I show my bias for nonfiction and American History) then why not try some nonfiction. A pretty darn good old book which is somewhat overblown and biased, but also has a lot of good history in it is a book written in about 1929 by Walter Noble Burns entitled TOMBSTONE. I first read it when I was a kid before the phony TV program about Wyatt Earp had been created in the late 1950s. It was the first time I heard of Wyatt Earp and ate this book up as a 10 year boy in about 1953. It has a lot of good history and there are certainly gunfights in it including the one on Oct 26, 1881. Go to the library or the internet and dig around. Moe

The best Wyatt Earp books are "The Chronicles of Tombstone" by Ben Traywick, "Streetfight in Tombstone Near the OK Corral" by Mike Hickey and "To Die in the West" by Paula Mitchell Marks. Eugene Cunningham's "Triggernometry" and Leon Metz' "The Shooters" are also very good non-fiction about a lot more than the Earps.

Anything by John Ringo

My favorites are

Gust Front (Sci Fi)

the Ghost Series (Technothriller with a strong helping of sex--avoid if easily offended)

and There Will Be Dragons- No guns (technology issues) but a definite pro-RKBA slant.

As far as Flynn's Rapp character. I don't think someone like that would be a CIA officer for very long, . He water boarded a terror suspect and later sends this guy on a "rendition". These acts are illegal under US law and have had real world counter-terrorist operators brought up on criminal charges. Rapp also bad mouths the US Dept of Homeland Security.

I'm not a big fan of action/police novels where the main character-hero is a complete a-hole.
Then you're in the minority and you're missing the point. Flynn gives the reader what he wants; somebody that is willing to go the extra mile, damn the consequences, to put the bad guy down. The watered-down CIA we have now is so emasculated, it's quite ridiculous. Rapp is one that, like many of us, feels that "If we do this, what makes us different than them?" only goes so far, then somebody must step up and do what must be done. He does that quite well, and he is not the a-hole. That description fits the people he puts down for good. Exactly what I'd love to do to today's terrorists. Similar to Chuck Norris's movies years ago.

Ringo...

I started reading a Ringo novel but had to put it down. His writing is soooo bad. When one of Ringo's hero/main character's starts talking about wanting to rape women, I said "That's it!".

I ended up reading Point of Impact (it was the only one in the store), by Hunter. Awesome book. Anyone who hasnt read it MUST. Thanks for the suggestion.

The first book that came in the mail was Deathwatch by Robb White. Nice quick read. Didn't really like the ending, though.

Just got Mr. Kantrowitz's Reckless Faith in my mailbox last night. I'm about 1/2 way through. Its a really good book so far. Kind of cool reading a book by an author you've talked to:)

Then I have the last 2 books in the Swagger series coming, and just ordered Unintended Consequences today
