Im still contemplating getting my ccw and just curious where do you Over weight guys carry at.Im thinking shoulder holster would be easiest but just not sure..Thanks for any suggestions.

I carry a Taurus 650 in a Don Hume IWB at 1 o'clock most of the time. I also have a nylon pocket holster that I picked up at a gun show that I carry in my right front pocket. And, for some special functions, I've been known to carry in the back pocket of my fanny pack.

I'm 5'6" 250lbs....low center of gravity types...I carry strong side behind the hip between the belt and pants.Oh, it's an SP101(snubby)in a Desantis thumb break holster...I like the between the belt and pants carry it holds the gun real tight ...otherwise it kind of bows out(at the lovehandle)I've always worn shirts hanging out so it wasn't much of an adjustment for me...A good belt is key and always having it tight enough so your pants don't slide down:D
To my knowledge I've never been "made" with this method of carry.
also I wear vests alot and this helps......www.smithandalexander.com has great vests that don't look too "tactical"......

5'10" 265lbs, am I fat enough? :D

Big shirts, usually I have no problem carrying my Para Ord C6.45 3" barrel IWB at about 3 o'clock with an el cheapo Don Hume clip holster. Forward, it pokes me in the stomach, an more back, it sticks way out because of the rolls...

If I don't have any big enough shirts clean, I carry my P32 in my pocket in an Uncle Mike's holster.

I tried Smart Carry and did a review on the forum, fat stomach and the butt of the gun cannot occupy the same space, among other things.

I'm about as big as they come, and I carry either:
Kel-tec P3-AT in pocket
Springfield XD9 Subcompact in IWB at 4:00 or in a SmartCarry. I have an OK time using the SmartCarry, I think I let it ride lower than most. I bought a cheap Uncle Mikes IWB holster because I wasn't sure I'd like to carry that way, but as it turns out I like it. I'd upgrade to a better holster, but I'm not sure why, the $13 Uncle Mikes has been working fine.

At 5"8" amd 220 pounds I can carry my Glock 33 or S&W 340PD in an Uncle Mikes IWB holster in the appendix position about 1:30. Either one tucks into the fat and hides beautifully. The trick to IWB is trousers or jeans the next size larger and a very good belt.
I prefer to carry the340PD because it rides a little higher than the Glock and doesn't stick into my leg when I sit. In my size 40 Dockers the pockets are huge so the 340 hides real well there also.

6"8"/315 I carry any of the following depending on my mood with no trouble:

1911
CZ75
Ruger GP 100
Glock 20
pocket carry: KT P3AT and SW 642

Most of the large guns are carried in simple belt slides under untucked shirts or pullover jackets.

I am NOT fat, I am a nutritional over-achiever.

Now that that is clear -- I usually carry a 1911 in an IWB Milt Sparks hoster. Best tips I can give are:

1. Make sure that your pants are the right size -- lot of us "large" guys try to wear pants several sizes too small, letting the gut hang over. Don't do this and you will have plenty of room for an IWB.
2. Get quality holster and belt. Don't cheap out!
3. My best concealment friends are banded-bottom polo shirts (tail worn outside the pants, but they look clean and neat because they are MEANT to be worn outside the pants -- they also blouse up some at the waist, aiding concealment) and camp shirts.

I'm 6'8" but only 285# and I carry a full size 1911 in an IWB holster of unkown origin. I bought it at a gun show and have no idea who made it. It's nice though.

When it's hot, I have an American Arms PK22 that's nice to throw in a pocket or if all else fails, the NAA mini-22 goes everywhere.

I met a guy once who carried a 1911 cocked and locked stuffed in his waistband directly under his belly (which hung over considerably). You couldn't tell he was carrying, but he had to move some real estate to get to his gun.

Here is hoping for no accidental discharges

I'm in perfect shape.
If you consider a pear to have the perfect shape :D

Despite my size, my rear end is somewhat flat and anything heavy worn on my belt tends to drag my pants down unless I cinch it real tight.

I've found that either a fanny pack or shoulder holster works best with anything larger than a J- frame.

I normally use 3 types...

rear pocket holster....P-32
Strong side belt carry...taurus pt145. KT P-11, XD-9C
IWB...kel-tec P-11 or XD-9 compact

I dont think I am going to mention who made the holsters...that would be VERY close to shameless self-promotion and that has always irked me:fire:

Size doesn't matter, I carry any way I want. Although I do on occasion carry a P95 in my pocket, so I guess a little tike would have a hard time with that feat!

I'm 5'9" 220 lbs. I carry a Glock 17 in a Galco Miami Special shoulder rig. On occasion, I will carry a Sig P239 in a Galco summer Special IWB.

when I can't possibly dress to conceal, I carry a Beretta 950, .25 ACP in my pocket.

LOL TheEgg....that's a keeper!

I'd say I fit in the same category - 6'1" and 290 lbs. It is interesting to see so many people say that they carry IWB....I have cheap nylon holsters (my main carry is a Makarov, but I also sometimes take the 4" 686) both IWB and belt.

I want to get a good, presumably leather, holster, but have been debating which style to get. The belt holster is quite a bit more comfortable, but the ones I have don't ride very high. I had pretty much convinced myself that if I got a "good" IWB holster, that would be comfortable and the most concealable.

Then I was at my local range, and the guy behind the counter had a compact 1911 style in a high-ride belt holster on (open carry) that looked pretty good. I asked him about how well it concealed and what his opinion of IWB vs. a high-ride belt holster, and he said, "You don't want an IWB holster. They are uncomfortable, and one like this is way more comfortable and conceals just as well."

That made me think that maybe the high-ride belt holster was the way to go, but now this thread has me doubting again! I am willing to spend the $$ to get a good holster (I already have a good belt), but I would also like to buy as few different ones as possible to find the "right" one.

Comments?

get yourself a VERY good belt...you can get away with having just a "good" holster if you have a VERY good gun belt

and no this isnt shameless self promotion....I dont sell BELTS!!!!:D

I'm 6'1" and 350. I carry a Beretta 96 in an Galco open top IWB on my right hip. I wear my shirts out and have no problems hiding the thing. I have also worn a S&W 27 with a 3.5" Bbl in the same spot between the belt and trousers. I have worn shoulder rigs, but I don't like being "stuck" in a jacket. I like to be able to shed a layer when I'm in a warm enviroment.

I'm 5'10.5" and about 200lbs. I'm not really "fat", but I could lose about 20 pounds. 3 o'clock carry IWB seems to be the most comfortable for most situations to me for a full sized gun, but it restricts mobility just a little. 4 o'clock is better in this respect, but it is not as comfortable. I really do prefer pocket carry MOST of the time, especially when in crowded situations.

People who mention "thunderwear" or 12-1 o'clock carry always make me go hmmmmm, I don't want any loaded gun pointing at the family jewels even if it's not chambered.

Murphy, Darwin, "CCWer makes national news over stupidity" and all that goes through my mind....

Another Uncle Mike's fan. I wear them at 3:00, with either a 642 or 696.

I've got a drawer FULL of nice expensive leather, and that's pretty much where it all stays. Cheap man-made materials for me.
