I am looking for a rifle manufactured today that is similar to the one below.
The Ithaca Model 49 Saddlegun was a single shot .22 (short or long) lever action rifle made between 1961-1978. Martini-type action. Great .22 rifle for beginners.

No, thank heaven! If you wonder about that remark, see my comments on the Ithaca 49 on another thread.

I don't think anyone makes anything like that anymore, but you can still get old Stevens Favorites and the like for a reasonable price.

And just to second what was said, I always heard Ithaca 49s were utterly horrible. As to say people have specifically warned me to avoid them, not just suggested them as a less favorable choice than something else.

As I said on the other thread, I worked in a gun shop that sold a lot of them, and about 75% came back for repairs after being fired only a few times. Some of the trouble was due to the customer (usually trying to drive out the breech block pin, which will destroy the frame), but most was extractor failure, and/or broken parts. When the 49R repeater came out, the boss wisely chose not to stock them.

+1 for I like 'em

I spent many a summer day with a dog and an Ithaca 49 as a young teen.
That gun had thousands of rounds through it and never failed. I sold it about 10 years ago and have regretted it ever since. Now they seem to be bringing $150 and more.

But the spiritual successor is the Henry H001. It's a repeater, but it traces it's design lineage to the old Erma-made Ithaca repeater, sister rifle to the single-shot 49.

So I bought a new Henry for $200, and I'm happy with it.

but if I run across a nice 49 for a decent price, it will probably follow me home.

any thoughts about the marlin model 60 line?

General consensus seems to be one of if not the best cheap 22 going and or a good all around 22 no matter the price.

Ithaca - Someone has a Ithaca 49 Magnum rifle for sale in the classifieds

Marlin/Glenfield 60 is well-regarded for it's accuracy. It is not easy to take apart for cleaning, so few go to the trouble, and just hose it out with brake cleaner when it gets full of powder residue. Good shooters though, and the cheapest .22 autoloader on the market. The receiver is not as modern-looking as a Ruger, nor as modular or upgradable. Lots of stamped metal. But the ruger isn't as accurate out of the box.
