Following up on another thread...is anyone here a member of Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club? I am thinking of joining, but don't know anyone who belongs, and would love to talk to someone first.
Please be patient, the folk that do this stuff are all volunteers and have busy lives.
I have been a member at CRPC for six years and it has been a great experience. The facilities are top notch and the people are really friendly and helpful as long as you obey the rules.
If you want a safe environment to shoot in and understand that your safety, and the safety of others requires adherence to strict ( but fundamental ) gun safety rules-you will have a great time and meet a lot of nice people.
If you are the type of person who doesn't mind "muzzle sweeping" folks as long as you "know" the gun is unloaded, please find a public range you will find our environment waaaay too restrictive.
There is a disgruntled past member stirring a stink right now. We are moving some houses just through the woods towards Waxhaw and hear the shooting. There will be over 2400 new houses going in soon around the range. Would not surprise me to see the range being moved before long--too many sheeple. Used to shoot in Charlotte a few generations ago-good people. wc
Your first year will cost you over $700.00 to join and you'll be required to go through a process more akin to hazing than anything else before being given a full membership after a minimum of 6 months. Range "safety" officers lording over your every move; even a bored retiree that has nothing better to do than review video of all your activities. Might be a good place to shoot if you eliminated the few toxic people that infect the management and made it more friendly to people that really want to shoot, rather then seek personal glory by controlling the membership.
My Buddy and his Dad belong. These two guys are very responsible and competent fellows. They speak generally well of the group. Like with anything, you'll find idiots in almost any group.
I was going through the new membership process back in 2004 with a co-worker who was and still is a member there. I wound up moving 30 miles outside of Charlotte and found it difficult to find time to keep up with the club.
It is a great place and I found the members there to be very friendly and helpful. If I lived closer to the shooting facilities, I would still be there and highly recommend this club for it's ethics and focus on shooters safety.
