You underpaid by $125 --> $225, depending on "dash" number and condition.

Should be a fun gun to learn about Smiths with.

Looking closer at it, it's a 29-2, serial# starts with a S237xxx, and what looks to be an electric pencil engraving #of 5-191xxx above the serial#. I noticed right off the trigger is a lot smoooother than my redhawk and a little easier on the eyes. What's a guy need with 2-44's?? Which one should I keep. I have a .45 blackhawk also, and load my own. Thanks to all the guys and gals here at the highroad....and TFL....

Nice gun, I'm sittin here green with envy.

Great lookin grips on that gun plus it's an S prefix -2, if it was sitting on a shelf here in California I would have picked it up on the spot without a moments thought towards haggling. Heck, depending on condition I'd probably pay upwards of 450-500.

Say.... what state you live in? After all, you aren't really sure that you need two 44 mags. :) Definitely could give that 29-2 a proper home.

My first S&W revo was a 29-3 and looked similar to yours but without the P&R. $225 was a great price.

One word of caution: Word is that older Mod-29's have an issue with heavy loads, loads your Ruger would shoot all day. The lockwork on the early 29's wasn't quite as beefy as the newer ones and was known to shoot loose. 240 gr at 1250 seems to be a good load; I prefer 240 at 1000. For PD in my 29-6 Pro-Load's (Tactical Lite) 200 gr at 1050 is outstanding.

IMO ...... sleep the sleep of peace, comfort and ''feelgood'' tonight ...... you have done ''sickeningly'' well!:). Enjoy - you will!

And as others have said to your ... ''I don't need 2 .44 mag's'' ...... phooey!!:p

Good deal!!!! And since you now have an early model 29, keep that Redhawk. The Redhawk is built like a tank (Super Redhawk is built like a thermonuclear bunker!) and will stand up to any safe 44 Magnum load out there. The earlier model 29's really do not stand up well to loads exceeding 240 grains at factory velocity. My model 29-3 sees 240 grain LSWC's that do not exceed 1100 fps and it will likely outlast me. My Super Redhawk will see whatever can be stuffed into a 44 magnum case and not blow me up!

Sounds to me like you got a great deal! If I recall correctly, I believe the early 29's had an issue with their extractor rod backing out when firing heavy loads. This would create a condition where you couldn't open the cylinder. I agree with the others, shoot the heavy stuff in your Ruger and enjoy your "new" 29 with more moderate loads.

Russsty - you do understand that we all hate you now right? ;)

Seriously, nice score - great price.
Personally I'd have to say keep both. Use the Ruger for the workhorse and the Smith for show and "light" go.
