Does anyone own the Henry .22 lever-action? What do you think of it? I see it under $200 at Wally World and other places.

Just got an urge for a lever-action....guess I have a need to be different. Is it accurate enough for squirel hunting at open-sight-appropriate distances? That and a good bee.....soda can plinker is all I'm looking for. I'm not expecting super-accuracy for under $200, but I don't want it to be inaccurate either.

Thanks for your opinions!

dunno about the H001, but i have one purchased at walmart. i went through quite an ordeal to get it though because i wanted the large loop version (recommended).

it's definitely up for your stated tasks. no problems.

my opinion:

a: all currently made lever action 22s are good rifles.

b: you really do get what you pay for, and you pay for what you get. the marlin is worth the extra money over the henry and the taurus, and the browning is worth the money over the marlin.

if you get the henry, chances are you will be happy. if you save and get the marlin, chances are you, your kids, and your grand kids will be happy. if you save more and get the browning, you, your kids, and you grandkids will be really happy.

me, i've got a 40+ year old marlin 39a. i fully expect it to outlive me, and it's older than i am. the henry would also serve well, however, i don't know if it would last as long.

the Henry...

ive owned a Henry 001 lever action .22. I liked it, it was smooth as buttermilk to cycle the action. it was very accurate. it balanced well. and the company has extreamly great service!

if you are looking for a lever action to plink and hunt with without spending a small fortune the Henry will be great.

The only thing that you need to know about the henry is that the reciever is painted and can chip or scratch. this can be fixed easily with a Paint Pen from Birchwood Casey to touch up any damaged areas. the wood they use is very good. dont worry about any thing you hear about plastic parts, or "pot metal" reciever. its a good gun that will last a long time if properly cared for.

i do not own the rifle at this time but will get it back when its time. my dad liked the rifle so much i gave it to him for his birthday a year or so ago and he has enjoyed it ever since. good luck! -Eric
