Any opinions on Taurus and Rossi Revolvers ?

But, it has been my experience that the Rossi .38 Specials have
proven themselves as a "contender" as an inexpensive small frame
quality revolver. As a matter of fact, they rank second [right below
the S&W model 642] in sales at our store. Heck fire, my wife even
CCW's an older stainless/square butt Rossi model 88. I've tried to
give her new Smith's (sorry, she ain't 'bout too get my D-frame
Colt's), but she has REFUSED each offer; instead relying on her
little Rossi 88.
Similar satisfaction has been shown by our customers who purchased
the Rossi model 971 in .357 magnum. We sell a lot of the 4" model to
security company's; and NONE have ever came back with issues~!

My wife actually has a 971 that she likes a lot.
I shot it to make sure it was OK prior to her shooting it and smoked a round right through the tiny little number I was pointing at on the target.
She shoots well with it.
Because it's hers, it has not had a lot of rounds fired through it, but it's never skipped a beat.

I have 2 Taurus revolvers. 605 and 88 and love them both, as they both shoot accurately and reliably. The 605 mis .357mag so is the 88 the 88 is a 3 inch and very very rare. Loocs like a smith 66 in stainless satin finish.

Many people will tell you that there are a lot of problems with the Taurus line, mainly quality control and consistancy. That being said, I recently purchased a .38 Special 85SSUL and I absolutely love it. It's light weight, accurate and handles +P rounds with little recoil. I did check it over at the store in accordance with the Revolver Checkout thread stickied at the top of this forum. If you haven't done so already, you should read that.

Rossi Revolvers
I have an OLD Rossi .22 revolver 2 inch barrel. So old it doesn't have an easily identifiable model number. It works great, I've shot bricks worth of ammo through it and it's a lot of fun. I bought it used for eighty bucks from a pawn shop.
The only complaint I have is just a "oh" thing. It shoots VERY high with Snakeshot (my initial reasoning for buying it was to have a truck gun I don't have to carry a lot of weight when I'm out in the sticks). Once I emptied it using the sights trying to kill a rattlesnake. I had to reload and try again. Not my bright shining moment... Anyways, once I realized that I went and patterned it with snakeshot and adjusted the sights and now it's spot on. Great little gun and the second best eighty bucks I've ever spent!

Have had sterling service from my Taurus 64,66,85CH, and 94. No issues and no troubles. See you folks over at www.Taurusarmed.net. There is a Rossi board as well. There have been threads here on how people liked their 351s,462s, and 971 Rossis as well as many short threads for Taurus snubbies.People vote with their wallets. All these people would not own any of the above mentioned if they had major problems. Even had a 441- 4 inch barreled .44 Special for awhile. Sold it for another pistol and am doing this :banghead: ever since.

Rossi Revolvers
I have a Rossi Model 88 and I truly love this gun! It shoots very accurate and handles very nice, however, it's single action. I carry a Colt Detective Special snubby double action, not as accurate as the Rossi but still pretty darn close and I do like this feature better.

Um, pardon me please but why is YOUR Rossi Model 88 single action, and

Thank you for the Welcome Aboard. I wish I knew why mine was a single Action! I had thought also that all Rossi Model 88's were DA. When going through my deceased fathers gun collection recently, it was a new one that I didn't hear him talk about. Imagine my surprise when testing it out later that it was single action!! And what a let down too. I wonder if there are other Rossi 88's out there that are SA. Glad to hear that your wife likes her DA Rossi.

Taurus 627 owner here. No problems at all, save for the stock grip being a bit small for my hand.
I have this older model 66 that while not as tight overall as the S&Ws has given me good service for a lot of yrs. It's had thousand of both .38s and .357s through it.
The little model 85 is one damned good little revolver regardless of what "They" say. It's my funeral, wedding and church gun. No experience with the Rossi but a friend has a number of mainly older .38s and loves them.

Taurus 605
I purchased a new 605 just a few weeks ago, fired 5 shots before the cylinder stuck shut. When I was finally able to get it open, (which required an immense amount of pressure) I was unable to close it again. This is unacceptable from a brand-new gun that may be called to defend my life! There is no visible defect or problem, and I am sure it could be easily fixed...but I'm not sure I would ever trust it. I have owned much cheaper firearms in my collecting career, but have NEVER had one break after just five rounds. I have called Taurus and have been placed on hold on three occasions for at least 20 min each. I would love my money back!! They will fix it for free. Wish I had spent a few extra dollars instead of giving Taurus a chance...

I've had excellent service from my Rossi .357. I bought it for price, but would recommend it regardless. I've known people that have had problems with their new S&W's, Colts, and Rugers. Just because you pay a premium price does not guarantee a premium product.

TAURUS and a ROSSI
Summer of 2005 I bought a new .38Spl/.357Magnum,7-shot Taurus revolver model 627 with a 6.5 inch factory ported barrel. The single action trigger is very nice, almost lite. The D/A trigger was gritty when I first got it but after cleaning, 300 or so .357 rounds and about 1000 .38Special rounds the D/A trigger is nice & smooth.
Compared to other revolvers of this type I would say Taurus does not pay attention to detail. The sights are junk. The bright orange part of the front sight was a very cheapish stick on decal that fell out after contact with gun cleaners. The rear sight elevation adj. screw will back out, all the way out while firing and after not so many rounds . Fortunatly the screw is retained so it doesn't fall out. Because of the crummy sights I use a red dot that has shown this to be an accurate sidearm.
As far as detail take a look at the burrs and gouges in the pic of the bore at the muzzel and porting. Not exactly detailed. I have read that other 627's are smooth bore at the porting but I've never seen another one myself.
My 627 has been 100% reliable and the wife enjoys shooting it so it does serve its purpose. If I had it to buy over I would for a few dollars more go with a S&W 686.

I bought the 68 to be our house gun and it was for awhile but after 300 or 400 rounds I found the D/A not reliable so it has been retired as the house gun. Like the Taurus little attention is payed to detail with lots of machining marks and sharp edges. I still enjoy shooting it once in awhile.
I have since started useing a 1953 CZ52 semi-auto pistol as the house gun which is 110% reliable and chambered in the very, VERY powerful 7.62x25 Tokarev round and it didn't cost much so if I am forced to fire it in self defense I won't mind so much should it be taken by LE.

I just picked up my Taurus Model 94, blued 4" in 22LR today. My fiance and I took it out to the range, and it ran great. Off hand at 15 yards it holds 4" groups without a problem (weak point is me). SA trigger is great, DA is pretty smooth, but fairly heavy. No other problems, ripped through 200+rnds today without a hitch. She loves it, and I like it a lot more than I thought I would!

If it ia a new one than you might be ok. I would definately stay away from the older ones. I was issued a model 82 Taurus 7 years ago (security officer) and it would lock up on me ever so often when I was shooting it. I would either get a Colt, Smith and Wesson, Ruger or a Dan Wesson if I wanted a revolver. I would pass up on the off brands.

I have a Rossi 720 five shot .44 Spl, it is the first and only Rossi or Taurus I've owned. It is a great little gun, almost fitted and finished as well as a S&W and very accurate.

I never had any problem with the 3 rosi'i
owned thru the years but tarus is a much
different story.If i was to buy a new taurus
these days it would get the used revolver
check done to it.

I own one Taurus wheelgun...trigger is heavy & gritty and the sights move on their own & require constant adjustment :banghead: OTOH, I have friends that have Tauri wheelguns that are just very nice samples of what a wheelgun is suppose to be. I've developed the opinion that if you find a good one, you'll be happy w/ it
