Any Problems With Using Lacquer Coated 9x18?

dogtown tom reminded me of this study.
The evaluation years ago was with lacquered steel cases in the Ruger Mini 30 also.

The rigid steel allowed gunk to build up outside the cases, in chambers which were Seldom, or Never Cleaned. Lacquer, or no lacquer on the steel was Not the issue. The problem was the gun owner.

Is it so difficult to push several patches into the cleaning rod's slot, put a little oil on it and clean your gun
after 100-200 rds. or such?

I have a Colt 6933 (11.5" SBR) that has run around 3,000 rounds of the cheapest Tula/Wolf/Barnaul steel cased ammo I've been able to find...........I've yet to clean it and yet to have a stoppage/failure to fire/failure to extract/failure to eject.

The biggest problem is how hot my silencer gets from shooting steel case ammo.

dogtown,

Actually back when the 600 round spam cans of .45 ACP were fairly common most good gun smiths reported that they had replaced a few broken extractors on 1911A1 and 1911s that used the steel ammo. More than were broken by brass ammo......so yes I have heard, from many sources that the 1911 was not designed for steel cases.

I am an old curmudgeon though.

No arguments with what you have posted otherwise, but that steel cased .45 ACP is the real reason I have a spare extractor as I still have some left in long term storage.

Worked great in a bud's M1928 Thompson though........

I shot a two day carbine course mostly with an AR-180 and Wolf Poly with no issues and the lady next to me used an old Mini-14 and Wolf Poly with no issues. Cleaning at the end of each day was done, so if we had been PM slugs it might have been different.
