The Gun Store on Tropicana, American Shooters Supply on Arville and Discount Firearms on Industrial for starters, there may be more. I belong to a private range and haven't been to any public ranges in a while. You can also go to BLM land north or south of town and shoot there! :)

I prefer just shooting on BLM or state land.
I usually take the 15 north out of town till I get to the turnoff for the Great Basin Highway (I want to say thats the Apex turnoff) I head north for a while until I come to a small, unpaved (but graded) turn off. I can drive my car right up to a few places to shoot. One looks like a closed up entrance to a mine which serves as a great backstiop as its kinda hard to shoot through a mountain. There is also plenty of room for shots of several hundred yards with more mountainous backstop.

I love the desert!

Its been a few yrs but when I was there I hit a range maybe 5 blocks off strip that rented full auto. There was another range that had wide variety of full auto as well as (normal) guns. AND the gal working there (Dang hot) was talking to me and they suggested I buy a poster and have it autographed. I looked up and there she was......The H&K P7M8 she was carrying was not the only (big guns) you could see in poster. I passed.
I was actually more attracted to her before I saw (everything)

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I will make a note of the names and directions; I've never shot on BLM land; do you just go and find an area, or do you try to see where others have been shooting? I mean, (I know I sound really dumb) how do you not get in someone else's fire, and how do you know you're not shooting at someone else? Like I said, I've not shot outside on public land before.

Thanks again. Just what I was hoping for.

I avoid public ranges here at all costs. The only good one I have found is the Discount Firearms range. http://discountfirearmsinc.com/ It's nice and for the most part they have a friendly staff, but a little restrictive on the rules. No headshots, 2 second rules etc..

But like Clean said, BLM is your best bet. You can find it on both the north and south side of vegas.
Here is a google map of the north side location..
Northside location
you can see where highway 93 starts to turn right, the dirt road turnoff is right there.

If on the south side, you can take the 15 south to the sloan exit, when you get off on sloan exit, turn left, then make a right. A few hundred feet you will see a dirt clearing, turn left onto that and then you will see a road that that heads towards the mountians, take that down and you will see several places to blast away. Southside location

There has to be some sort of fairly large range out there someplace. If I recall, Soldier of Fortune held their World Shoot-off there a few years back.

salty.

Thanks for the tip on Discount FireArms. I've been to the shop on East Tropicana, and found it claustrophobic at best. Stopped by the shop on Arville, but didn't have time to shoot (had to meet a friend for some aerobic shopping). This time, I will try to lure some of the party into the range. The happy troop is about 10 strong, and will be showing up 30 April, and staying at the Imperial Palace, for the most part. Maybe see you at the range.

I normally shoot at American Shooters Supply. I've stopped in at Discount Firearms. The range looked ok, but it's a few dollars higher than American Shooter, and I believe that you have to buy ammo from them. I bring my own at American Shooters, and I find the range to be large and comfortable for an indoor range. I've bought 4 guns from The Gun Store, and my wife and I shot machine guns there. I also took my CCW class there, and did my qualifying there as well. Not a bad place, but they also require you to either buy your ammo from them, or use frangible lead free ammo. It's also a bit cramped. There's Practical to Tactical on rte 160. close if you stay at the Silverton. Otherwise, a little ride out of town. Thanks for the BLM info. I may try it some time. I think that it would be too far for most visitors, though ok for locals. Now that The weather's getting better, I'm thinking about joining the private range. Finally, Clark County has plans to open a public range. which would be nice. But, it's a good year away, if it even gets built.

If you go to The Gun Store, the best way to start off any conversations with the clerks is, "Hi, I'm from California..." http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=31226&highlight=Gun+Store

Just find a spot where you have a hill or mountain as a backstop, no one in sight, and have fun. If there are other people around, it's good to have at least a 90-degree difference in your direction of shooting, and be 200 yards away from each other. If you've never shot alone at an off-range spot before, you'll have more fun shooting than you've ever had before, unless you are mostly into benchrest, as there are no benches in the desert. Some kind of shooting mat, water, and sunblock is also useful. Bring your own tagets. BLM prohibits shooting at trees or glass targets. Collect all your trash, no matter how much other people have left. I'm going to go shooting on BLM land near Reno in a few weeks, and plan to bring along a broom and a pooper scooper because I'm tired of bending over to collect brass.
