I was wanting to get a cowboy style single action .357 to go with my Marlin 1894C. I was looking at Ruger's new Vaquero and am kind of put off because it doesn't have wood grips to include price tag. Then, there is Beretta Stampede. Price is also an issue to include their finishes. I really don't like their deep allmost anodized looking bluing. That leaves me with my third choice, the Uberti cattleman. It really seems to fit the bill as far as overall appearance. It really has the look to include finish that I'm looking for. Price is really what appeases me. I found them NIB online for under 300.00. Yeah, I know that saying "you get what you pay for" but, there are a few exceptions when it comes to guns. Take the Makarov for instance. Who would thought that a 150.00 gun would out preform guns three times it's price in accuracy and reliability with readily available cheap surplus JHP ammo. Is the Uberti one of these exceptions? I have yet to read anything bad about their blackpowder pistols so, does the same quality of fit and finish apply to their Cattleman line? April is one of those favorive months of mine when I get three pay checks through out the month so, I have some spending money if you know what I mean. . Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Flip.

I guess that the lack of responses means you should go ahead and buy one. FWIW Uberti is now owned by Beretta. I know a couple Cowboy Action Shooters who think that Uberti makes a good product. Hope this helps.

Uberti does make a good product and < $300 is a great price. I also know several cowboy shooters that like them a lot. They may require a little slick up here and there, but most of the cowboy guns require that anyway.

Be a little careful about where you but them though. Different importers have different standards and specifications. You may be getting what you pay for if they're cheap because the importer will accept anything Uberti gives them.

That bring me to another question.

And that one IS the importer. Upon reading the ad further, it is imported under EMF. I really don't know how that compairs to others such as cimmeron which, I've been reading is one of the best but, I'm not going to pay their price as seen on their web sight. This will be a strickly range gun shooting reloaded .38 SPCL's and maybe mild to medium .357's depending if I want to readjust my dies up to .357's.

EMF says their Ubertis are better, Cimarron says theirs are better. Fancy that.
They all come out of the same factory, they are all mass produced and it is a crapshoot on any of them. You might get a jewel, you might get a lemon, either way. A friend shoots Taylor imported Ubertis. They are plainer in finish than the others, but they responded to tuneup and she shoots them darned well. Faster than me.

I am more familiar with Uberti percussion revolvers that their cartridge guns, but here goes ; The Ubertis I have seen have all been excellent as far as materiels and workmanship. About 99% of them shoot extremely well, most are accurate reproductions of the old guns, but with much better steel. They
have been making single action revolvers for decades, and are really very good at it. I don't think you will find better if you want a Colt SAA reproduction, rather than a modern transfer bar single action such as the Ruger.

If you want the transer type, the Ruger is the best, but even a used Vaquero will cost more than a new Uberti.

Your choice.

Mark :)

I had 2 Uberti Cattleman 1873 45 Colts that I purchased for cowboy action competitions.

On the first stage that I shot with these guns one of them had a internal parts failure that needed a vist to the gunsmith to remedy.

Other problems that I had was the hammer safety assemblys feel apart on both revolvers @ different times, the fit of the parts was extremely loose and many other minor problems. It got to a point where I was loosing competitions because the guns seemed to always have some kind of a problem.

Sold them as fast as I could and replaced them with 2 consecutive # s/s Ruger Bisely Vaquero's in 45 Colt. I have never had a problem with these revolvers and will never buy a Uberti anything ever again.
