Hi all..

I pretty new to shooting.. got some CZ pistols, 22 rimfire pistols and rifles..

Started watching youtubes and see the Mossberg 88 Security, 500s and 590s get rave reviews and seem very affordable ( especially the Mavericks ! ) ..

so I start shopping...

Local gun stores who will even answer their ohone chuckle at me... and EXTENSIVE web searching shows- they DO NOT EXIST at retail , ANYwhere...

a very few on Gunbroker are selling way over MSRP

I called Mossberg direct and they say resupply is MONTHS away

I’m VERY late to THIS party!!

Anyone by CHANCE know of a LGS or place where an 88 or 500 short barrel pump might exist ?? ( even a 590 but hoping to not spend that much $ )
Probly not but I thought Id ask ..

If we survive the pandemic and WHEN they hit retail, cant wait to get one !

Take care out there ! Tnx, Mark

Nope everyone sold out of them about a month ago.
Best bet would be local used gun shops.

tnx ! ill check that out, that store is just a few minutes from me..

im not familiar with em .. is it comparable to an 88 or Maverick ?

whoa !

I didnt think Walmart sold guns anymore, didnt think to check there... numerous on line listings ( ie. gundeals ) show stores, but then they dont have stock ..

Ill check first thing tomorrow AM !
tnx... needle in a haystack but who knows.. might get lucky

youre right !

Id sure rather have a Mossberg .. but crazy- absolutely NONE to be had.. at least that ive been able to find.. LGS around town cant even answer their phone.. and the few thst did - have NO 12g shotguns...

H&R partner pump- $150 at walmart.

Another Chinese clone, if it matters.

Years ago I took in a Norinco 98 with a 20" barrel with ghost ring sights which has been reliable. Most parts except the barrel will swap with 870 parts. I got the 98 from a local police officer that used it as his duty shotgun.

I got lucky last week and finally found a 18.5" barrel for my 410 Mossberg. I just missed the 18.5" 12 gauge barrels.

Not to me, it doesn't. About half the cost (or maybe even less) of a similar new 870 or 500, in a gun that won't see much use at all (as a truck gun). If it were to get stolen, I would be much more upset about the broken window.

The only reason I mentioned the H&R being a Chinese clone is that some people don't want a Chinese gun. I've had no problems what so ever with my Norinco 98.

Purely as an exercise go to gunbroker and enter Remington Wingmaster. You’re looking for an old ex-police basic riot gun. Almost in any condition it will never let you down in my opinion. On the street it was always my first choice, and we always had a mix of beaten up Mossberg 500’s and Remington 870’s to
choose from... With a bit of luck you might even find one that’s a seventies era version (long before they ever came out with that “Police” model)...
There’s one there now, basic four shot tube, bead sight, with a starting bid of only $230 - bid ending in only a day or so... and no one’s even bid on it. It also has a slightly longer barrel at 20”, not something you see very often on a street gun with a bead sight...

I have a H&R Protector. Works great and is as smooth as my 70s Wingmaster. Yeah its a little heavy but its my bedroom gun. I put Hogue 12" stock set on it along with a Mesa 6 side saddle, and 5 rnd butt cuff. I take it out a couple times a year. Always worked 100%. I've thought about picking up a Mossberg or Maverick. They are a little lighter. Only thing is I,m used to the Remington layout and can use them in the dark. Adding one of the others may throw me off in a blind situation. But the Pardener is a solid gun. Plus that square back on the receiver is easier to aim with a slug barrel then the curved 870. jmho but I love mine. As far as being Chinese I don't care. I want something that works. I have several Norinco SKSs and a AK to go along with my Ruger Minis. They ain't target rifles but will work and work and work.. Stay safe.
