I finally found a Glock 20 upper to put on my frame that has been collecting dust... I know the G20 is big, I have a G21. I currently carry a G29, and in hot weather (which is rare here) I use a G27. Both in Milt Sparks VMII holsters. So now that I have this upper coming, I'll need a holster of some sort. If it can be carried IWB practically, and there are others here doing it, then I'd probably just get another VMII. I can conceal or open carry with it. On the other hand, if nobody does it, or it isn't very practical even in cold weather with a jacket, then I'd probably go with a Milt Sparks OWB holster (which I figure could be used concealed during winter).

So my concern is finding advice and information from those that have or do carry a G20/21 IWB. If you don't or haven't (or worse yet, don't even own either of the pistols) please refrain from giving me your opinion.

I just want to get the right holster for this, and if it can be used IWB sufficiently, then another VMII would be fine, it is THE best holster I have used yet. On the other hand, if I will be served better by OWB and the occasional carry under a coat, then perhaps that is the way to go. I just don't want another IWB holster if I can't really ever use it concealed, in that case an OWB would be more comfortable.

Note I am not really concerned about holster selection, I know which manufacturers I like, particularly Milt Sparks, Mitch Rosen, etc. I am mostly concerned with how you did or did not pull it off using IWB or OWB. A mention of the holster you used is fine, but I don't need suggestions regarding the gear, just IWB or OWB based on your experiences.

The Glock 20 and 21 probably have the widest slides of any auto pistol in their league. Maybe the Desert Eagle is thicker.

Before you start thinking about holsters, are your pants big enough for IWB with a gun whose slide is over 1" wide?

No, but I will carry my G20 OWB sometimes, but to do so requires pretty baggy clothing unless you are looking to print really bad.

I just finished a hybrid IWB holster for my G20 but I haven't carried it yet. If you carry a 29, simply add slide length, grip length and additional weight and you'll have an idea of how comfortable the 20 will be. :)

I'll carry mine around the house this evening and give you some further feedback tomorrow.

Yeah, like I said, I have a 21 and have for a long time. I have a cheap paddle holster, but it doesn't keep it close like the Milt Sparks would, so I can't say for sure myself.

The G29 hides and carries very well, it is very comfortable in the VMII. That is why I was wondering if it would work, since the only real issue will be the length of the grip (the width, it is an SF frame, so it isn't AS big as the older 21...). I have the pinky ext. on the G29 already, but I think the grip sticking out will be the biggest problem unless it presses flat real close on my side. The length and width isn't an issue really, since the G29 is just as wide and the length IWB will only be an extra inch or so.

Wearing it OWB will not be a problem with a good holster, I just will only be able to use it during the winter and on hikes and such. But if anyone IWB carries this thing, I'd like to know about it because the additional use would be nice.

Carrying a G20 is nothing at all like carrying a Deagle. Have you ever even used a G20 or G21? It is a large pistol, a full size duty firearm, but it isn't ridiculous large. A large full size man has no problem handling it, I just want to know if it can be reasonably concealed. If so, I know what rig to build, I know which holster will work that I can wear all day. I essentially already do very successfully. My concern is how bad of a problem does that grip pose? Or if it presses in close, is it a problem at all?

Yes, I've been carrying my G21SF IWB for the last couple of weeks. It carries just fine. As long as I wear it at about the 3:15 position, it doesn't print at all. I can do it easily wearing jean shorts and a semi loose polo shirt

I don't notice the extra width, and it isn't overly heavy. To me it's a little easier than carrying a full size 1911 IWB, thanks to the weight

As for holster, I just use a $10 universal holster I bought from CTD a while back. It's soft leather and tucks very well. Only part of the grip sits above my beltline

I have an Alessi Talon Plus which does a dandy job of concealing my G20 (relatively speaking)

Carried mine last night around the house. It's big but it's conceal-able with a somewhat loose-fitting shirt in an IWB holster similar to a CrossBreed.

Hardly any printing ...

Wow, that does hide well on you. I guess these posts sum it up, it is doable. I'll go ahead and get the IWB then, and I can tote it either way. I just wanted an OWB holster if that was the only feasible way of doing it though. My only real concern was the grip being too long, as carrying the 29 is halfway there anyway.

I'll probably stick to the Milt Sparks VMII unless they recommend otherwise (sometimes they actually recommend Alessi or Rosen depending on the application). I'll take a look at the Rosen. I like the idea of the Crossbreed, especially for Glocks. While I won't get one for this pistol, I just might down the road for another. I just don't like the tuckable clips so much, but if I can find one for the right price I might be persuaded. I have the clips for the VMII's and I never use them. If I tuck my shirt it, I usually wear another shirt or some type of jacket (or fleece, considering this place). If I have to tuck and conceal, I'd probably use the G27 (a fine little pistol, just not as accurate as the 10mm for some reason).

Thanks for all the relpies. And seriously, good job hiding that monster. That holster works really well. I would have thought it would print more than that, although I don't really care about that so much except on occasion.
