Anybody else not shooting enough?

I have been sooooooo busy lately that it seems that I hardly get to enjoy my collection of firearms. Anybody else here feel like a lot of their stuff is underused?

How about a pep talk!

On the subject, as a teacher, I see a terrible decline in the number of youth excited about the first day of deer season!

Our great grandchildren will, I'm afraid, live in a shooting deprived world!
 
Don't feel bad; unshot guns dont wear as quickly!




I recently moved to the Cincinnati area and I NEED to find a range to shoot at!

I prefer outdoors, regardless of the weather. I have been to Targetworld, but I also need a rifle range (300yrds +?)

anyone have any ideas?
 
I hear you. The first big winter storm hit three weeks ago and I shifted all my gear over to the winter bike. Then it melted and I've had to wait for more snow before doing any longer distance rides on the studs.
 
Get a pellet gun. I don't shoot much even though I am fortunate enough to live in a rural area and could shoot at my inlaws place (3 miles away) anytime. I have re-discovered (via a garage sale Crossman 1377) that shooting off my deck with an air pistol is great fun and a good challenge.
If my wife wouldn't balk, I'd probably set up a trap in the basement, too.

The school district here (every year) comes closer to not excusing kids for hunting--but has relented so far (obviously, parents could call the kids in sick--but that is a bad lesson to teach).
 
I have to admit that since starting our business (see below) that I do not get to shoot as much as I used to. Especially since the time change and it gets darker earlier.

That's my problem. It's dark at freaking 5:45. It's weekends or nothing since I work 8-5. It's just barely light when I leave for work and it's dark when I get home. There always seems to be something planned for the weekend that does not involve shooting.. I need to have a talk with the little lady and reclaim my Saturday or Sunday mornings.
 
My wife and I used to go shooting quite a bit. Ever since our son was born a little over a year ago, it's been pretty tough to find the time to do much shooting.

It should be much better in a few years though, when the little guy is old enough to do some shooting. I'm already eyballing the Chipmunks and Ruger Bearcats for him.
 
I purchased an Airsoft copy of my Sig 228, and I've found it to be great for practicing indoors or at night when I can't get to the range. It's similar in weight, has a good trigger and the sight picture is exactly the same. With it being a gas blowback it even has a realistic recoil, not as powerful as a 9mm but at least as much as a 22LR pistol.

If you print out targets on your computer and tape them to shoeboxes you can even practice IDPA inside your house! :D
 
An airpistol or airsoft is good, but if you're a revolver shooter, and have a .22LR revolver, buy some Aguila Colibris and set up a suitable backstop in your garage. A box a day keeps me sharp. Since the distance may be short (6-7yds), make it extra challenging by shooting 1 handed bulls-eye style in double action.
 
I hate to admit this, but I have been too broke to shoot my S&W 66 this year. I just cant't see spending $30-35 for 100 rounds of .357's when I could be spending that $30 on something that is much more needed. However, I am going to spend about $300 to get into reloading, besides I really want and need a new hobby.
 
Too much shooting is just barely enough, but time, and gas and ammo prices sure do make it tough. I've been thinking of air pistols so I can shoot more even when I only have a few spare moments.
 
I honestly can't remember if I have been to the range this year. :(
....and with 2 new contracts starting up I doubt that will change.

I'm going to go home and clean them just to show them I still care.
 
If I'm not at the range everyday, I'm not shooting enough. But... a) I can't afford that much ammo; and b) the range is 35.6mi from where I live (as per Google).

plan on getting into casting as well.....that's where the real savings kicks in.

I've had just about every spare minute spent on building a house addition this summer and fall.

The end is in sight....we're painting now and the carpet comes next week.

FREEDOM!!!!!
 
I have to plan it ahead, but I try to go every two weeks. Between school, work, the kiddo, the wife, homework etc.... it's never as often as I want. One of these days I'll be on some property out in the middle of nowhere, and I could be using this time I'm spending typing to go shoot. :D
 
Ammo prices prevent me from shooting enough. As well as work and school obligations. My girl friends father has offered to teach me how to reload since at this point I know nothing about it. It bugs me deeply when I open my safe and my pistol looks up at me lonely longing to be used.

Also I just replaced the mag release on my M&P so I would love to know how well it works but have not found time for range time yet.
 
I used to shoot weekly in a league. Then it was maybe monthly, just to stay in practice. Now it's a lot less . . .

I've been traveling a lot for work and just can't get to the range. In fact, I have had two project guns in pieces on my work bench for a year and a dozen or more part's I've ordered for other future projects just sitting in boxes waiting for a home.

I've become so desperate that I recently decided to take up trap and bought a shotgun, just so I could bring it with me to California (where my project is) in the hopes I could get to a range after hours to get some trigger time. I still need a travel case.

At any given time, I have at least one newly purchased gun that I've never shot, and they sit there for months. :(
 
actually, just got finished cleaning my S&W. put about 50 rds through it :)eek: relized i only had one box of .38 special FMJ left just after i got the gun out) man am i rusty. then i relized why i never shoot it anymore. all the scrubbing i have to do when i get back in:rolleyes: i guess i will be complaining about ammo prices (and gun scrubber!) come friday!
 
I've got plenty of ammo, but time is scarce. I work full time and go to grad school full time... I haven't caught a single quarter of Monday Night Football at all this season. :(
 
Ammo prices scared me away from shooting my bigger guns very often. I do take out my 22 rifle and pistol every weekend though. $10/brick works for me, and they don't have to be cleaned every time either.
 
Give me decent weather and less work and I would be there daily... as of right now I am happy to get out two or more times a month.
 
I too am a victim of monthly ammo price increases. That's why I shoot 9mm's, but I'm going back to my 22 auto. Not too long ago 9mm ammo prices where never an issue, $4.99/50 and now it's $8.99/50. Something has to give and I'm afraid it may be fewer new shooters. :( Geez, maybe the arabs are controlling the price of ammo.
