I am toying with the idea of rebarreling my FN Mauser to .308. Anybody have experience with E.R. Shaw barrels. I am looking at their heavy bull barrel. 1.250 diameter entire length
ER Shaw is what Model1Sales uses on their AR-15. I have not had any problems with mine. IIRC there may be another manufacturer that uses them but the name escapes me at the moment. Have one one my Enfield also.
It's your rifle, but a barrel that size will require wheels and a hitch to move the darn gun around. I hope you don't plan to hunt or shoot targets in registered competition with it.
rumor was they used to make the A&B barrels for Midway. If I was putting a prefit barrel on a Savage, they would be great, since they're cheap. But with the machining charges involved in doing an FN, I'd get a high quality barrel.
My Shaw barrels have performed on a par with my Douglas barrels. All but one have been mounted on M98 Mausers, the exception is in a push feed M70 Winchester. All good.
Along with several other makers whose names are well known.
I've used Shaw on several guns with no problems. Haven't had a reason to try one for a match grade type application, but the hunting rifles have all been able to hold 1-1/2" at 100 yards with no problem.
