I found a Savage Mod 24 22lr/20ga today that looked like it spent a long time in a leaky lawn mower shed. The bores were pitch black and it is missing a screw, rear sight, and shotgun firing pin. I got at a price were if it doesn't work I can probably sell the stock and action parts for what I got in it and if it does it will make a nice trunk gun/ SHTF gun. I wore out a 12 gauge brush and and 22 brush and used up a can of WD40 on the bores and they look really good with a little slight pitting here and there. I certain it will shoot at least minute of rabbit out to 35 yards. Now I need to take the action apart and clean up the out side and in. Anybody care to help?

Thanks.
This one has a plastic button in front of the triggerguard that opens the action. I used to have one just like it when I was a kid and even have a pic of me when I was 7 holding it. Traded it to me dad for something that I forget and know the SOB won't sell it back to me.

Got it cleaned up enough to were I can read the writing on the barrels. Its its a 22 mag/ 20ga 2 3/4 to 3 inch . Sure do not feel like buying a 10 dollar box of mag ammo but I'm afraid I will have to.:(
Did find an old 10 dollar bill in the butt stock though.:D

Man don't sell it for parts! The old model 24 deserves better than just being a trunk gun. Parts are available for it through most common gun parts related websites. It is one of the later models if it does not have the barrel change button on the side and uses the latch in front of the trigger guard as you say.

Here is a great write up that gives the history and shows some detail on the Model 24...

And also a picture of my 20ga/22wmr Model 24 which is identical to yours!
