I hate, and I mean HATE, wearing a holster. I hate wearing a belt even w/o a holster. When I get my permit, I'd prefer to pocket carry a DAO revolver and wondered if anyone out there did this on a regular basis. Any concerns besides printing? Is this a long-term viable option?

I'm thinking right front pants pocket in the summer and inside jacket pocket (left side for right hand draw) in the winter. If something were to ever happen (justified self defense shooting, a cop stoped me for something innocent and I informed him/her I was carrying) would they think pocket carry is unsafe or suspicious?

Thanks.

I carry a NAA Guardian in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster (right front pants pocket) a lot of the time. Helps keep the gun positioned while in the pocket. Cuts down on printing. Most of all it protects the gun.

As far as what someone thinks - if your legal is doesn't matter. Stay on THR for awhile and you will find all kinds of opinions.

use a holster for pocket carry and DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE in that pocket - I find a revolver to actually print less since it a compilation of curves, like a human, not blocky rectangles

I like pocket carry but you still need a belt. If you're pants are tight enough that you don't need a belt, you won't be able to draw from the pocket. If they are loose enough that you can draw, your pants will fall down without a belt. Even a light revolver weighs a lot more than anything else you would normally carry in a pocket.

340pd in a Desantis nemesis holster and a speed loader in the other pocket and fugetaboutit.

Yes, frequently. It is easier - and more appropriate for some social situations - to put a Kahr PM9 in my pocket rather than strap on a larger belt holster gun.

Even a light gun like this tugs at your waistband a little, so I still suggest a belt.

Yes, a 2-1/4" Ruger SP-101. I also often pocket carry a Polish P-64 (PPK clone).

S&W640 and PM9. I use Nemesis, Mika, and Uncle Mike's pocket holsters depending on the shape of the pocket.

If you pocket carry, inspect and clean the gun often as pocket lint WILL get into every place that you do not want it to be!

I pocket carry a small frame .32 Mag Titanium Taurus in the right front pocket. Mostly with holster but sometimes without.

S&W 642 is a very popular carry gun and can be carried in this fashion. May I suggest you pay attention to the weight of the gun as part of your choice process. Small framed revolvers like the Taurus, S&W J frames, Charter Undercover, Colt detective Special, and even the Ruger SP 101 will fit into a pocket just fine, but there are models that weigh above 20oz's in the group and I personaly recommend something under 20oz's. It is always up to the individual however.

In the auto's, I carried a Kel-Tev P3-AT for about a year, and that was like having nothing there. Probably one of the reasons why Ruger copied this gun as it is a popular pocket carry choice, and now the Ruger LCP is available (after recall guns should be chosen) . There are of course other auto's that carry well in the pocket. Kel-Tec PF-9 is another example.

Here in Nevada their is no B.S. requirement for a holster. My CCW varies from here to their. Right now I am favoring a shoulder holster. So I can pack comfortably in the office. But I have very commonly packed with no holster at all. When I where my jeans. I just pack my G22 in front and two or three 15s in my back pocket. I were a belt though, a very rigid leather belt. When I where shorts I just tie them tight and where it in the front again, and a couple 15s in my pocket. I despise carrying a pistol of any kind in pocket because it is not secure and it always makes my clothes sway around the point where my Glock is. That really gets annoying.

A Mika pocket holster hides my gun in a front pocket. I carry a S&W 642 and a 12-2 this way. You do need a belt to keep your pants up or it may become an ankle holster at an inappropriate time.

Pocket carry is my usual routine - either as a solo or as a BUG. As others have said, get a pocket holster, put nothing else in that pocket, and check the gun often for lint or other minor debris.

In terms of weight/belt - depends. Around the house and when I do my daily mile walk, a 642 in my sweats doesn't require a belt, just that I tie the cords on sweats securely. For longer term, or when you're out in the world, a good belt is always a good idea.

I like pocket carry because it is very natural to have your hand in a pocket in a relaxed and casual manner, with the pistol there ready if needed.

The only way I would consider pocket carry is in a coat pocket.
I dont wear baggy pants and the draw would be as slow as christmas.
I will stick with a good belt and holster.
However our Taurus M445 .44 snubby fits nicely in a coat pocket.

I pocket carry most of the time.as others have stated get a good holster, I use desantis nemasis.
With no belt I'd try to keep the weight down under 15oz. IE airweight, seecamp or Kel-tec or the like.

My pocket rig.

Kahr Mk9 carried in a DeSantis Pocket holster with a JSHolsters dual pocket magazine carrier. The Belt holster is a DeSantis #2.

Did any of this make sense?

For those of you that pocket carry in a pocket holster doesnt it take longer to get ithe gun into action than from a belt holster?

When I pocket carry, it is in loose fitting dress pants and is pretty quick. If I had to time it - honestly, it would be a little slower! Enough to matter??? For me it is an option when more discreet carry is a concern (not the only option). Everything is a trade off, If I knew for sure I was going into a gunfight, I'd take a shotgun and pocket carry would not be a consideration.

A different drummer..........

I have lived forever in 501's and tucked in workshirts 7/24/365.

Not much room there for either belt or pocket carry.

The saving grace is that I also live in a vest

- and if you want a good one, Duluth Trading Co's Force 9

Beats the crap out of Columbia.

Carharts are great, too.

So I wear a shoulder rig, gun to the left,

Two clips to the right, vest zipped up halfway.

No print whatsoever, and as I carry a CZ P-01

Decocked, with a round in the chamber,

Effectivity is pretty damn fast.

for what its worth.
