I used to watch the fast draw competitions as a teenager at Regional Fairs in Humboldt County when I was young. I was fascinated with the different methods and where the shooter wore his holster. Most wore the holsters low just above the knees so as to draw faster.
They shot a balloon inside a frame and were timed. The light at the bottom of the frame would come on for both shooters to draw and the light went out automatically when the balloon was popped. I remember times of .27 seconds being had! Incredible.....sometimes the wax bullets did not shoot true and both shooters would empty their guns with no score because the bullets wandered off target so bad they couldn't hit the balloons. Seems to me they were only 15ft or so away from the targets.
