Does anyone else shoot a Volquartsen rimfire?

I have the .22 Mag with the lightweight barrel and the McMillon stock. It's topped with a Leupold 2.5 to 8 x 36. It shoots way better than I do.

Here are some targets I shot @ 50 yards with CCI ammo. All groups are 5 shots.

I want to get a higher magnification scope and try some groups at 100 yards. With the 8 power, I can tell if I'm on the bull at 100, but I can't tell exactly where on the bull. It sucks to get old and not be able to see.

I don't have a Volquartsen but I can see why there reputation is justly earned.

I'm jealous of those targets.

(aren't you supposed to be writing a book or something??????:D )

I bought a Volquartsen THM 16.5" barrel for my Ruger 10/22. I have shot 10 shot 3/4" groups at 50 yards with it. When I take it squirrel shooting, I am the only reason I miss. For a compact squirrel gun that is light, I don't think you can go wrong with the 16.5" THM barrel.

I built my own 10/22 with Volq parts. THM barrel, cantilver mount, extractor, TG2000, the only ruger parts are the receiver and bolt. It shoots the lights out. Sub-dime at 50yards with bulk Win Dynapoints.

Half;

I had one built at the shop in Carroll Iowa several years ago. I hunt gophers with it. It's a sure hit with one shot out to 100 yards. Had to do my ammo testing & learn the midrange correction of course. But I've sighted it in at 100 yards & am extremely happy.

Tom did the action & mounted the tensionlite barrel. I put it in a Hogue stock with Burris mounts on the receiver & a Weaver V-16 FCH scope. As it's the light .920 barrel, I did not free-float it. It has shot a .016 10 shot group at 25 yards. But really, it's a hunter, not a bench gun.

Got two Volquartsens, don't laugh...but we shoot flies at 100yards with them....here's a pic

SD - Yes, I am supposed to be writing, but sometimes I get stuck or just need a break. ;)

Red - That's the barrel I have on mine, too. I love it.

Sac - Sweeeeeeeet!

900 - I would kill to get to go to the shop.

Rembrant - TWO? And, I thought I was bragging! ;) That is an awesome rifle. I'm not laughing and I bet the flies aren't either! What scope do you have on it? I am really wanting another to set up mostly for target shooting. I can't decide between another .22 mag or a .17 HMR. Anybody have any opinions? Mine is really great for hunting, but it needs more scope to be a good 100 yard target gun and I think I want the heavy barrel, too.

To anyone who's considered buying one of these - They are on the expensive side, but they are worth every penny. I shoot this rifle more than any other I own and it has made me a much better shot with all of my rifles. Shoot one and you will be a believer. If anyone in the San Antonio area would like to shoot mine, let me know.

Edited because some how some of my E's disapeared. 'Fess up...you took them, didn't you?

Volquartsen

Yep I shoot one too. They are pricey but worth it. One ragged hole at 100 yards is easy with my Volquartsen 17HMR Deluxe.

'Twere me, and it was, I'd go for the .22 long rifle. In fact, I'd lay a dollar to a dead rat that if you go with the .17, you'll sell the .22mag to get a .22lr.

Halffast....was using a 20X Unertel on that Thumbhole unit to shoot flies..it now has a 3-9X Burris, not nearly enough scope for "swatting flies".

Here's a pic of Volquartsen #2....this one has some sentimental value, autographed stock by the hand of "Moses".

900,

Sell my .22 Mag? That's sacrilege! Why I'd rather sell my soul. But you bring up an interesting point. (Halffast rubs his chin thoughtfully.) Maybe I need a .17 HMR AND a .22 LR. Yeah, that's the ticket! :D

Rembrant,

OK, now you're off of the Christmas card list and on that OTHER list that I keep. In fact you may be pleased to know that you are right up toward the top. ;)

David

PS - Nice rifles! Can you tell us how you got Moses's signiture?

Met him through some of NRA functions....signed it during his last year as president.
