I built my last AR before the late lamented ban came into effect, and gave up tinkering on black rifles for the duration. Now that it's over I want to build a couple of lightweight carbines just to get back into the swing of things.

So what's the scoop on barrels these days? I've been hearing about people waiting weeks or months for parts from some suppliers, how's the barrel market? I want either 14.5" govt contour with permanently affixed flash suppressor, or 16" lightweight so far as length and weight are concerned, chrome lined, twist rate not a real concern. I will use iron sights exclusively on these, already have a couple of old slickside Colt uppers set aside from long ago.

TIA for any reports from the field...

Seems that the less common the onfig is, the longer the wait. I got a kit from Del-Ton with a standard Del-Ton 1-9 barrel with no wait, but if I wanted the DPMS lightweight, it would have been up to three months.

I got one of Denny's Recon Barrels, made by WOA--a 16 inch barrel with 1-7 twist. Havent really field tested it yet but looks nice.

I really like Bushmaster's 16" superlight, but I believe there is a wait for it.

Matter of fact there seems to be a bit of a wait for everything, especially if it has anything to do with an M-4...

My Bushmaster 16" Superlight barrel assembly took 6 weeks. I ordered it mid Feb and got it around the end of March.

It was worth the wait though.
