Anyone carry a NA 22 mag as a backup

I sometimes carry mine as a backup with the .22 WMR cylinder. I shot some .22LR that was subsonic that had a shortened case and a longer, heavier bullet. Those things tumbled out of such a short barrel. I had a target full of long holes in it.:what:

I like the idea of the Black Widow model. I guess I got some thinking to do now.

Have had one in my boot or pocket for about 30 years now .
Last resort ? yup Just push it up the Bad guys nose and shoot > arm pit > ribs whatever you have to to end a bad situation

Some measure effectiveness by fpe. It is not the only measure but it is something to consider. Look at the naa site for honest ballistics. The short barrel mini .22 mag develops from 50 fpe to as high as 72 fpe. With those figures you might not get any penetration through layers of clothing. It bothers me that I can do better with a .25acp. We have several naa minis, but the next one will be a 4" barrel with much better developed energy. In the meantime a .32 or .380 dramatically outperforms the .22 mag.

Has anybody tried WRF in place of WMR? I shoot WRF in my single action revolver in place of WMR with less noise and pyrotechnics. In a rifle the magnum has the advantage but in a revolver with a short barrel I would say they would be the same in stopping power.

Yup. Mine's not my primary, but in my weak side pocket. i figure it might come in rather handy if I'm struggling with my strong arm with a BG up close, say maybe he's got a knife or a gun and I have a grip on it. Just pull the little NAA with my weak hand and shove it in his ear and pull the trigger. At the very least, the muzzle blast should distract him. :D

Seriously, though, the little toot could save my bacon. I can think of so many scenarios where I wouldn't wanna be without it, and it takes no effort to carry.

How do you carry it? Years ago when I did carry a mini I went from folding grip to tiny IWB holster to pocket holster. None met my safety criteria, and finally I found a tiny nylon holster with velcro closing that fully covers the cylinder and hammer - slower to access but safer. No longer carry it but may in the future - hope I can find that tiny holster.

I think that they're horribly under powered, wouldn't go through a thick winter jacket, only surpassed in uselessness by the .30 carbine.

They're small and jewel like. Too cute to hurt anybody.

I think all of y'all should get rid of yours.

I can help you with that. PM me and I'll provide info to my FFL. Send me your pistols, legally of course, and I'll make sure their disposition is fitting their stature.

This thread reminded me of one I read here on THR years ago where the poster gave his account of a gunfight in his driveway. At the time he was armed only with a NAA revolver in .22mag. He survived against 3 armed attackers, fatally wounding one and driving them all away.

I should note that the revolver in question didn't survive the incident intact. I don't think it was clear what caused the issue (faulty weapon, ammo, or a strike from incoming bullets). I enjoyed (in a somber way) re-reading most of the thread again today.
