What do the gunwriters carry?

I'll deviate a bit and expand the range of potential folks who have frequently been discussed as a 'group' at one time or another when it comes to this subject.

I'll include gunsmiths, LE firearms instructors/armorers (not always one and the same, BTW) and firearm manufacturer employees (of all stripes).

Now, while I don't allow the stated preferences of folks like these to really influence my preferences and carry habits (I've been at it enough to have come to make my own decisions based upon a range of reasons, including experience ;) ), I've noticed that over the years I've seen a common thread often emerge ...

By this I mean that the diminutive 5-shot .38 S&W Special snub nose revolver has often emerged as a common choice, like it or not. For those folks who have another, larger 'primary' handgun preference, it often still seems that the little 5- shot wheelgun is a not uncommon fallback, or alternative, selection when either clothing or just comfort may make the bigger handgun a less desirable choice.

I think that speaks well for the 5-shot gun ... when it's in the hands of someone who has the requisite skill, abilities and experience to effectively use it, of course.

The other guns? Some folks like one set of qualities, some like another.

I even know folks who still choose to carry a K-frame, including a couple of guys who have been involved in shootings where they effectively used one or another semiauto pistol, but they still choose to carry K-frames when they're on their own time a respectable amount of the time. Both of the shoot them rather decently, too.

Personal preferences are just that ... and why should gun writers be any different than the rest of us? ;)

It may be interesting from a causal conversation perspective. People are built that way. I just wouldn't necessarily look at it as a validation (or invalidation) of the decisions I've made. I look at the decisions made by the other groups in the same way.

It's okay to be interested, but any comments and opinions of the perso (of whatever group) and their choices ought to remain respectful of the other person's choice(s) and their reasons for same, right? :)
