I carry iwb most times but sometimes with tight pants I goowb with a longer shirt. My friend came over the other day to shoot in my back yard and bragged how he bought one of those leather Blackhawk holsters on Ebay for the xds but fits the G3c like a glove. I recently bought several and they do fit the G3c, but the way he carried has got me to ask this question. He wears the gun outside of the pants with his belt through the loop and around the holster. He says it is more comfortable and conceals the same. Here is a pic of the holster so you can know what I am asking, does anyone else do this? Take a iwb holster and wear it owb with a belt to secure it through its loop on the holster? Thanks

I have seen that done, a convenience if you don't want to buy pants a size over to accommodate IWB.

I spoke to my mechanic today, he showed me his paddle holster, chosen for easy on and off for crawling under trucks.

Now and then, I wore an IWB holster outside the trousers, with the belt through both loops of an IWB rig having two loops. It has been a while, probably late-Eighties to early-Nineties, so, I no longer recall exactly which weapon, or exactly which holster, but, I think it was a G. Wm. Davis Security IWB holster, similar to a Sparks Summer Special, but, with a tab of leather acting as a “sweat shield,” before Milt Sparks started adding that option to the Summer Special. As for the reason, well, it may have been I was simply in a hurry to add the rig, or to change rigs.

Another reason comes to mind: In hot weather, when I wanted to leather leather breathe better, and be exposed to less perspiration, I think I may have switched the holster to being outside the trousers.

In either case, a sturdy belt, and the holster having sturdy belt loops, should retain the holster and weapon equally as well as when worn IWB.

Why yes! yes, I have. Conceals the same though? I don't think so. The holster sticks below the belt! Certainly conceals better than OWB, since the belt is there to hold it much tighter to my carcass.

Correct. In terms of printing it will conceal about the same. Maybe not quite as well because you don't have the pants over the holster to sort of soften the appearance a bit, but close. Where it isn't nearly as "concealing" is in terms of bending/sitting/reaching up. In those cases it's much easier for the cover garment to rise to the point where the gun is visible.

A general rule of thumb is that a good cover garment should extend 6" below the lowest visible point on the gun while the wearer is standing normally. True IWB buys you several inches so you can wear a shorter cover garment. Wearing an IWB holster OWB won't provide that benefit so the cover garment will have to be just as long as for carrying OWB.

Yeh, for a while now.
You don't need to buy larger jeans, just a longer/stiffer belt.
I have "converted" several holsters to be worn outside my pants but behind my belt.
For most I added metal belt clips that I zip-tied closed the open ends.
Those clips can be adjusted up or down to change the cant and ride height.
Here's a hybrid:

Here's a fold over single clip at 3 o'clock.
It has a claw to keep the gun grip tight to my body:

They can be worn from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock and can be slid back-and-forth easily.
