Well I use 9mm rounds for target practice, and the best deal I can get is from www.MidwayUsa.com a case of 1000 for roughly $175 plus shipping.

Does anyone know a more cost effective method of obtaining ammo other than using reloads? Because I wouldn't trust reloads on my gun.

Yes, just go to Wal-Mart. They have Winchester 100rd boxes for $12.49ea. Thats only $125 per 1,000. Best deal going and I don't know why people insist on buying 9mm online when it is cheaper at a local Wal-Mart.

A lot of WalMarts in the area (CA) have quit selling ammo all together. They all quit selling guns a few years back when they got caught breaking all kinds of rules. I believe that one cost them 14 million.

Edit: As to the original post, that Midway catalog has everything you need to build your own ammo for much cheaper than even WalMart. Post on here for a reloader in your area to show you the ropes and you'll never buy factory ammo again.

Why don't you trust reloads? Is your gun falling apart? If so, I wouldn't trust factory ammo either.

I only trust my own reloads, no one elses. Much like shooting, reloading is safe and rewarding if you follow safety rules. Reloading isn't as dangerous or difficult as some people make it out to be.

Academy has Blazer aluminum for $5.69/box, WWB for $6.39 and Remington UMC for $36.50/250, if you live near one (and unlike WalMart, I believe their prices are uniform).

I shot 150rds of the Blazer 9mm today - seemed just as accurate as WWB/UMC and cleaner.

I would try some cases of Miwall reloads (even cheaper than CCI for .45 and .38Spl), but Outdoor Marksman East hasn't had any in two months.

When was the last time you checked ammo prices at WalMart? 100rd WWB is now selling for around $15 at most Wally Worlds.

.40 is $20/100
.45 is $27/100

Plus sales tax.

Thank Goodness

I handload, or I wouldn't be able too shoot~!:uhoh: :(

Fella's, and Ladies I'm here to tell you that the price of ammo has shot
thru the roof~! We had three major price increases last year, and I'm
truly expecting a big one too hit us before the end of the month (Feb
'07)~! :scrutiny:

Academy also has Monarch brass 9MM NIB for $5.86. It cost me $127 out the door for a 1000 rounds.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, just go to Wal-Mart.

Sadly Walmart isn't an option since I'm in California and they can't sell ammo here.

That or may I don't want my gun to start falling apart.

How is that Monarch, James? I ignored it (only in .45 last time I looked) as I thought they were just steel-cased ammo ala Wolf.

Broke? :scrutiny: Just because I son now has to walk to school, get a job & maybe drop out of college to feed the firearms in the house???

Really, I shoot a little less than before....no biggie

Try shopping in NJ, Walmart has been castrated. They do not sell guns or ammo. hek, it is hard to find good fishing equipment in one here.

Consider buying a .22cal handgun. Semi-auto or Revo. Cheap ammo and plenty good for practicing handgun marksmanship.

Yeah I really thought hard about that. Unfortunately, the M&P didn't come in .22 so I got the 9mm version of it. It also comes in .357 .40 and .45 but I chose only 9mm because it was the smallest. 9mm isn't so bad is it?

Maybe not near you, but they certainly can and do sell ammo in CA.

9mm is never bad. But for $179 delivered, Ammoman will sell you 5,000 rounds of .22LR. Can't get much cheaper than that. Go to the range, shoot a little bit of 9mm, and a LOT of .22LR.

With ammo prices going up and up, that may become the norm for a lot of us. Even handloading is no bargain anymore as component prices are also skyrocketing.
