Just wondering.

I picked up a super nice Bushmaster Dissapator in a trade and I definitely want a muzzle brake or flash supressor. The problem with getting one now is that I'd have to have it permanently attatched, something I definitely don't want. Needless to say I want to hold off until the ban expires so I can get a vortex FS or one of Kurts Kustom's A3 Tac Brakes.

Of course it won't affect those with a 14.5" barrel since you must have your MB or FS permanently attatched to be legal, even after the ban expires. Since the Dissy is a full 16", I'm good to go with a threaded barrel when it expires.

Anyone else holding off getting one until the ban expires? And if so, what type are you getting?

I would like to convert a couple of my ARs when the AWB sunsets. However, the guns will still have to remain out of California. :(

I also have a Dissy, but don't feel any need to thread the barrel after the Ban. I'm ok with the plain crown.

If I did not also have an M16, I might feel differently.

I'm planning on threading the barrel of my 16" carbine just so it will BECOME an "assault rifle", and therefore grandfather itself in should a similar ban come down at a later date. I probably wouldn't otherwise since it will become a range plinker once my M4gery gets finished on Sep 15th :>

I'm thinking of buying a "pre-ban" superlight bushhamster barrel and a Vortex flash suppressor next month so I can pop an ice cold beer and assemble a CAR upper on the first post AWB evening.

Meh. Just get a plain barrel now and have it threaded September.

I just picked up a Bushy Superlight :D :D :D and it'll get a collapsible stock and threaded barrel when the ban ends. I'm not anal enough to change the FSB for the bayo lug, though. ;)

If the ban drops, I'll definitely be threading one of my ARs. I'd love to put a comp on my carbine. If the ban does not drop, I won't put a comp on. I hate the idea having something "permanent" on the end of an AR barrel.

Can somebody explain to me how the Ban will NOT expire? I keep hearing all these pessimists saying it won't expire, but I think they need to look at the law. It flat out WILL expire on 9/13 @ midnight.

By law, the ban has to sunset. The question is if they'll put something in place to continue it - and it doesn't look like they're going to be able to get something in place before the elections.

That was kind of my point Rick, thanks. I'm glad somebody is getting it.

This doesn't mean we need to give up the fight though.

mrstang01,

I'm not trying to be pessimistic about the ban, but it was my understanding that there was option to either let the ban die, renew it or make it permanent.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know everything about this topic, so maybe I'm just uninformed. Does anyone now where the language explaining the ban can be found?

There was/is no such option. It dies in Sept. To revive it, they need to enact a new law. That new bill would have to be voted on by the house, senate and president.

i'm debating the purchase of a PTR-91 but might wait until after Sept. when JLD says they will make them available with FS (i'm guessing threaded?) and collapsible stock sets. i'd rather just get one that way from the get go instead of spending more money to get it done later. but i'm so darn impatient! i have gottahaveit syndrome right now.

Yeah, I'll probably pick one up the week before and put it on right after the ban expires. Don't want to break the law, ya know ;)

I have Bushy 16in HB(post ban)----that is downright obnoxious to shoot----the flash in lower light is incredible.

While my 14.5 with perm attached IZZY brake is one sweet shooter---the brake does a decent job of flash supression.

Come Sept 14th that 16in barrel will definitely be stripped off in favor of something pre-ban----most likely a 20in Govt contour-----not sure what to do with that left over 16in barrel-----maybe I should just torture it now----so it will actually need replacing----lol.

My barrel will definitly be sent off to be lightened and a flash suppressor will hopefully be added. If I cant add a flash supressor, some sort of muzzle brake will be added to replace the awful ak muzzle brake on my ar now.
