Today, I went to my LGS and picked-up a couple magazines and some ammo.

Also, I made a hands-on comparision of the S&W 686 and Ruger GP100. While very similar the Ruger felt more natural in my hand and the trigger pull was IMHO completely even. The GP-100 will be the way I go, when I decide to purchase another .357 revolver. This decision means that with the exception of the 442 over the LCR, I prefer the Ruger offering in every other category of revolver of which I have any interest.

I was wondering if anyone else prefers Ruger

Of those two my own preference is for the S&W option. I've shot both, neither one belonged to me, and the S&W felt more natural FOR ME.

But the GP100 is a very nice gun and if it fits your hand better and you like the look of it more then it's the gun for you.

They are both fine guns. I have owned both Rugers and Smiths. I no longer own any Ruger revolvers and own many Smiths for the same reason you state. They just fit ME better. I own several other Ruger firearms and may own Ruger revolvers again in the future. It's nice we have options, eh?

I almost always prefer Colt and S&W DA revolvers over others. But I do like the Ruger GP-100 and can't fault someone for also liking it. I have never developed any love for the SP-101 however. But I know it's a good revolver. I am not particularly fond of the Ruger Redhawk model in general. I just don't like that hump.

I prefer Ruger hand guns in general. Got a bunch. I would trade my Model 19-4 4" blue in a heartbeat for a 6" stainless GP100 with the right grips, or a stainless Redhawk. That is just me. :D

I like a little bit of everything and don't turn my nose up at much. Though I typically prefer S&W for DA's. My single actions may be Rugers, Colt's or replicas.

I only have one DA revolver, and it isnt any of the brands mentioned. That being said, the Ruger SA revolvers seem to be breeding in 'Foggy's Artillery Locker'

I have a .357 Vaquero, a 50th Year .357 Blackhawk, and a 50th Year Single Six. not to mention the MKII .22LR autoloader, and the KP-90 .45ACP on "permanent loan" to my Sis-In-law, and the 40th Year 10-22 rifle

In your direct comparison I had at one time both a GP-100 and a Model 686. Eventually I sold the GP-100 because when it came right down to it, I preferred the DA/SA trigger and the overall feel and balance of the S&W better than the Ruger. With the possible exception of the Security/Service Six series, I have pretty much stayed with S&W for my DA revolvers.

Over the years I have owned a bunch of revolvers including Ruger, Colt, and S&W.

Right now today?
I have no Rugers, 4 Colts, and over a dozen S&W's.

I prefer hot loads for hiking and hunting. The Ruger not only digests these loads better, but you don't have to worry about making them sloppy. If all I shot were "sissy" loads I would prefer the Smith for the trigger.

I`m not biased ,I`ve owned many makes , but the safe has more Ruger firearms than any other manufacture.

They simply fit better !

& glad to live in a country where we have the right & can choose !!!!

I have several of both, but prefer my Rugers to my Smiths. Ruger revolvers are just awesome. Solidly built, and you haven't experienced fun until you've loaded some heavy bullets for a 357 Magnum Redhawk.

This is America. We can own both.

I have a fondness for K-frame revolvers over all others, but a Ruger SPNY has recently relegated my old 3" 36-1 to the safe for main snubby duty, so it's case by case for me.

Until we start talking single actions...

;)

I had a security six that just wouldn't shoot .38 well, great with 140 grain magnums. As I had a better shooting Smith M19 at the time, I traded it for a 6.5" Blackhawk that's a tack driver. I had my SIL's 2.3" SP101, held it for him on an Iraq tour. He got it back when he got home. He needed 250 bucks, but I'd promised to sell it back to him. I didn't wanna see it in a pawn shop. Great little gun. I even added a Hogue grip and a Wolff mainspring to it for him. Ruger has introed a 4" adjustable sight SP101 and I want one, plan to look for one when I get some money ahead. 29 ounce trail gun is what I'm thinkin'. :D That little fart was accurate.

I own the 6.5" Blackhawk mentioned and a custom engraved, sanbar stag gripped 4 5/8" .45 Colt Blackhawk for a working gun. I love that thing, a little heavy, but it's also heavy on the working end. It is AMAZINGLY accurate with a 255 flat nose over 8.3 grains Unique OR my 300 grain Hornady XTP butt stomper loads. I bought the thing when I was going out pig sticking with dogs with a guy I know. I quit doing that, but the gun is still a favorite. Never had to shoot a pig with it, but I've shot a few in my trap with it. It works. :D

I guess my FAVORITE Ruger revolver...and you'll probably  at this....is a Ruger 7.5" blued Old Army. I had a stainless version, but it got ripped off in a home invasion when we were gone some years ago and I replaced it with the blued one I found at a local gun shop. I love shooting cap and ball and THIS is the finest cap and ball shooter extant, strongest, too. I have a Colt replica, a Remmy, but the Old Army is still my favorite pure shooter. It's as accurate as most cartridge guns and will shoot all day with no cap jams or gumming cylinder pin.

So, yeah, I like Ruger revolvers, though my preference is to single actions, I'll admit. I don't care a whole lot for the GP100. I'll carry my .45 Blackhawk, no heavier or bulkier. I mean, they're good shooters, just portly for what they are. I think I'll REALLY like that 4" SP101, right up my alley. :D

And, I have 2 P guns (P90 and p85) and a 10/22 and a Mark 2 .22. I have a few Rugers, more of 'em than any one other brand.

I REALLY like Ruger SA revolvers. (especially the .41s) InkEd, if you held a S&W and Ruger and thought that the trigger pulls in DA were equal then S&W has really gone down hill even worse that what I have been hearing. There was a time when there was no comparison between the two out of the box. With some careful smithing the Ruger could definitely be made good enough to work with but the S&W would usually surpass the Ruger without any work done to it. I guess I must really be an old man now.

Over the years I have owned a bunch of revolvers including Ruger, Colt, and S&W.

Me too

I actually collect Smiths. I have lost track of how many I own, but probably well over two dozen. My collection goes back as far as 1870, and right up to the 1990s. They are all shooters except for the little 22 Tip Up.

I own a bunch of Colts and Rugers, but I love Smiths.

I started out liking and owning Ruger revolvers but sold most of them. I did keep my LCR and carry it from time to time, nice trigger. Also kept an SP101 which is a nice kitchen drawer gun, hate to shoot it.

I'll take a Smith, Colt or Dan Wesson revolver in no particular order over a Ruger any day.

I actually do like my LC9 though, even though it's missing a wheel :)

I'm starting to become a Ruger guy. It all started when I bought my S&W model 19, then later found out about the forcing cone issue these are plagued with. I buy my guns to shoot, I buy them to shoot whatever loads I want and I certainly do not enjoy being limited to only certain grain bullets. Again, shame on me for failing to exercise proper due diligence, but I won't make the same mistake again, I'll just buy Rugers from now on and call it a day :).
