Anyone else watch Law & Order? Identify the guns...

I don't watch much TV but I'll admit I'm a Law & Order junkie. I'm not very into Criminal Intent but the original and SVU are awesome IMO. Anyone else here enjoy the show? Anyone not like the show? Why?

To keep this gun related, I was watching the marathon on TNT tonight and curious to know if you guys could identify some of the guns the detectives carry.

I find 'Criminal Intent' to be the best of the bunch. I've never bothered to id the firearms though.

About the only thing I've ever noticed is that both Brisco (who's real name I've forgotten) and his replacement, played by Farina (who's character name I've forgotten) both carry snubnose revolvers to everyone else's polymer guns.

Jerry Orbach (who has since passed away) played Lennie Briscoe
Dennis Farina plays Joe Fontana.

I like the original, and I always notice when Briscoe or Fontana have their revolver drawn.

They are typically carrying the Glock 19 or 17 (never looked close). It is now the issue NYPD service pistol.

From the shows I have watched, Lenny Briscoe carried a snubby revolver. Maybe a S&W Detective Special?? Almost everyone else on the show (and the variants (L&O SVU, Criminal Intent) appear to carry Glocks.

Didn't the NYPD at one point issue Ruger Security Sixes to the beat cops? I had also heard that when the change was made to semi-autos as the standard service weapon, some detectives were allowed to keep their revolvers either as a pesonal weapon or to continue to use them as their service weapon. Do (did) NYPD LEO's have to buy their service weapons or are they issued?

I remember one episode of SVU where the lady detective confronts a rape victim at a shooting range where she's practicing firing a Desert Eagle .50 that she has apparently chosen as a CCW. The lady detective then tells her its "practically an assault rifle" and confiscates all of her "14-round magazines."

I pretty much lost any faith in seeing accurate gun information on that show from that moment on.

I believe they are carrying Glock 19s. And they are usually pretty accurate about what guns the police are carrying. However they have consultants tell them what NYPD issues. Sadly they dont care much else for realism concerning guns as stated above.

I watch L&O quite a bit (all of them). Seems like mostly Glocks (19's), some Sig's (P228?) and a few J and K frames.
