Anyone else with a "home range" have a hang-up about shooting on Sunday?

I'm Catholic by choice, not birth. That said, target shooting or hunting are fine by me on Sunday. Oh, and that's not the real or Jewish Sabbath anyway. Sabbath is sundown Friday until the appearance of three stars Saturday evening. A day of rest, which was the intent of Sabbath, can be any day of the week.

I'm a christian and I got to church every sunday. I usually shoot on mondays because thats my day off from work but I have and have no problems with(nor does the pastor) shooting on sunday or anything else I would do any other day of the week.

Newbies, please be assured that the gun culture is NOT comprised solely of religious fanatics.

I'm so glad. I was afraid of all these religious nuts who might be so bold as to CHOOSE NOT TO SHOOT and ask if other people CHOOSE NOT TO SHOOT ON A SUNDAY!

FANATICS! NUTS! SYCOPHANTS!

Range time is 1100 to 1800 any day of the week, but I usually don't start significant rounds of shooting until 1300. Before and after that time I don't want to "bother" the neighbors nearest me. Simple courtesy.

The day of the week makes no difference to anyone around us and I find I can introduce more people to shooting if they come over Sat. or Sun. and stay for dinner after. So, I supposed Sunday is the preferred shooting day on my home range.

I have no neighbors, so I can start blasting whenever and with whatever I want.

My area also is probably one of the few remaining areas with blue laws (I hate them, too).

But, I usually don't shoot Sundays because I am either sleeping in the moring or at work in the afternoon.

What does your religion have to do with shooting???

Don't remember reading anything in the bible, koran or any other "religious" book about thou shalt not shoot your AR-15 on Sunday. BUT - out of respect for those with only the weekend to relax and spend some time outdoors, I refrain unless the whole neighborhood gets together to shoot.

I shoot Monday thru Friday (but not on holidays). When the only other stay-at-home is gone shopping for the day, THAT's when I do the most shooting.

Neither is it composed of hell bound pagans, but you don't see us denigrating you for your lack of belief, do you? I know you are very well respected on this board bogie, but really, give us Christians a break.

i am a christian. i shoot after church on sundays. i do not think it is disrespectful or wrong. christians that do refrain from shooting on sundays are not "fanatical". fanatical is someting like, oh i dunno, suicide bombers or the like. i don't think that choosing not to shoot on sundays makes one fanatical so long as you don't try to legislate it or force others to adhere. then it would be getting fanatical.

As a young man, during duck/quail season we would hunt ducks on Saturday then quail on Sunday morning.

I try to avoid it, noise in my area carries well and it is a very quiet place. Try to keep peace in the neighborhood. It seems like I can hear my rifles for 5 seconds after I shoot, bouncing from one mountain to the next and back.

No problem at all. Just don't shoot the moon, right?

I think that the Sabbath was originally on Saturday, if it already hasn't been mentioned here. To me that means that the value of a day or it's meaning is yours to assign and honor as you choose.

Practically speaking, my neighbors come over to shoot on Sunday afternoons, because church is in the morning.

Buying a suppressor was mentioned - uh, I'm not even sure those are legal here in "progressive" NC. Though I think a FFL I did a transfer through was advertised as a Class III dealer.

Anyhow - can't justify the $$$, don't really want to get on another "list" with the .gov, not even sure the Sheriff here would sign off on it...

Besides, the gun in question on THIS particular day was a Garand! ;)

Maybe someday I wouldn't mind owning a suppressor for my G19, or maybe a suppressed .22...

As for my neighbors...for the record, I've never gotten a complaint about my shooting from them to my face, nor behind my back that I know of. Two of them shoot some themselves (usually just enough to sight-in their hunting rifles). The newest one does not shoot that I know of, but what he DOES do is work on old (and often loud) muscle cars! :D

Things are nice between us, jus' wanna keep it that way. :)

I'm Catholic and I have to shoot on Sundays because that's when the CAS and IPSC matches are. I'm shooting three Sundays a month, sometimes four. Love that anticipated mass on Saturday evenings.
