Anyone ever "cut down" a Glock frame?

I worried that applying a piece of stair tread tape on the front of my grip, (on my metal frame gun), may somehow stain the metal! Here, some of you are taking a Dremel to them. Innovation isn't without risk I guess.

doubtful since they still make runs of them...

I wrote "early" Glock 17Ls and Glock 24s," and didn't mention current production guns. (I know they're still being made in small numbers... every now and then.)

These models were introduced around 1994, and were originally 2nd gen guns. They may have a certain appeal for Glock enthusiasts.

Ive done this to both of my gen 3 G-17's. Fit my hand better, balance better, & for me, they shoot better. Heavy texture grips, better sights. Just the way I want them.

I get the easy conceal ability of a G-19 with the longer sight radius of the G-17. IMHO, the best of both worlds.

Have 2 Kahr CW-9's. Both were jam-o-mattics, chopping the grips to use the 6rd mags instantly fixed the jams. Not one feed jam since. Even hand racking the slide doesn't induce the infamous Kahr Nose Dive. Now both are 100% reliable. One was even a numbered # of 1000 NRA commemorative. It got chopped too.

Did I ruin the resale of these? Yep, I certainly did. My kids can worry about that after I die.

As a side note, I've been offered more than new retail for both of these CW-9's by frustrated Kahr owners who can't get theirs running. Kahr makes a great little pistol, but the magazines are a flawed design. Kahr knows it but enough work well enough that it won't get changed. That's just the way it is.

In my opinion, and only mine, I feel that I vastly improved these 4 sidearms immensely. For me.

Take it for what it's worth. But, measure carefully,, several times. Cut slow. Have fun with it. If you get in over your head, STOP! Get it to a smith.

What I have encountered in the firearm buy/sell arena is this. Similar to "tricking" your ride. After you take all the chrome and 28" wheels off its still a 1988 crown victoria.
I would venture a guess with a Glock resale value as long as it functions correctly and safely won't be affected much, if at all. Afterall, by serial # its still a Glock 17, 19, 30 or what ever. However, if you were to chop up a Singer model 1911 I would be upset.

Coldfinger- agree. I'm certain anyone on this forum will be long gone before a gen 3 Glock becomes a "rare icon".

I got Glock 17 2gen that was a LE trade at a good price. Problem was that the right side of the grip was gouged & worn to a jagged edge at the bottom due to wear (likely against a seat belt buckle). The solution came with the use of a Dremel & belt sander to shorten the grip to model 19 length. Never was a collector piece, and became a usable and comfortable handgun again. In my case, it repaired an almost ruined gun.

CC- wear on the rear of our frames was the reason many of us put JP magwells on our pistols and Glock +2 extensions on our mags. We spent alot of time banging around in armored vehicles.
