anyone ever have to intervene in a situation like this?

Cant say what I would have done.... too hard to call all the variables.... I can, however, tell you what I would do now....

I would go back there and eat again!!.... and maybe even thank the guy for being willing to protect himself, his business, his employees and his customers... you may have just found the safest restaurant in a 'gun free' zone....

Eye gouging or fishhooking or kicks to the balls are all effective from the right position, but when the arteries carrying blood to your brain are cut off, and you've got a handful of seconds of consciousness remaining, it's difficult to hook your arm all the way behind you and find somebody's eyes.

Especially since you've really only got one chance to jab them in the right spot before they twist and close their eyes. Even if you connect, they won't necessarily let go.

Try it with a partner. You might find eye gouging more difficult than you might imagine in a short period of time.

chair table fire extinguisher anything heavy will do. heck i used a pair of ice skates to great effect once swung em by their laces

Fire extinguisher! I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. One of my favorite found weapons...

its my least favorite if someone else found it. beer bottles booze bottles mugs and pitchers are quite useful too.

Scene from "the godfather". James Khan's character beating the crap out of his brother in law. Garbage can, garbage can lid, punches kicks, and stomps. That's what works in a fight, not some kung fu, mma sh**, from television.

Being a Shorter guy, I've always taken out at least one of the BG's legs w/ a push to the back of whichever knee seems to be supporting the most weight. Then you can bow back to set your choke w/ them off balance at the very least.

There are effective fighting techniques and ineffective fighting techniques, just as there are effective shooting techniques and ineffective shooting techniques.

Saying that real fighting is like a movie brawl would be akin to saying that a real shootout is similar to a movie shootout. Both instances can be true with unskilled combatants or shooters. However, there are simple, effective techniques that can drastically increase your chances of winning in either instance. Anyone who has ever seen skilled fighters or skilled shooters can attest to this.

Now, obviously we realize that those techniques aren't Bruce Lee's kicks or Sonny Chiba's lightning fast kung-fu hands. But identifying some techniques as ineffective is different than identifying all techniques as ineffective, which is what you seem to be doing.

I submit that the classic Rear Naked Choke is one of the effective combat techniques. It's worked beautifully for me in a real situation, and it's the most reliable, effective fight-winning move from the rear that I can think of.

I stand open to correction, of course.

What I seem to be doing is that a wine bottle, beer bottle, ashtray, chair, fire extinguisher, or various other items that are in your typical resturant are more effective then your fighting techniques.
Just because it works in a controlled "gon" doesn't mean it works in the real world.

It's sorta hard to take it seriously when the only pic you post is of grinning young ladies doing the move. Scantily clad grinning young ladies at that.

Just sayin'...

lpl

That's a true statement. Now, would you fight a black belt? He is unarmed; you can have your choice of a fire extinguisher, wine bottle, ashtray, chair, etc. And in won't be in a 'gon,' so his years of training will obviously be negated.

"Black Belt" doesn't mean ****. I'm a "Black Belt", and doesn't necessarily denote any actual accomplishment or skill. And, yes, I would fight one with a good found weapon. Especially if it involves the OP's scenario, engaging while the attacker is distracted...

They are hands down the greatest part of this post! It's too bad that they are sisters. Otherwise, they could have decided to stop fighting and start making out-hard!
