I like my little Kahr PM9, but would like to polish the matte (bead blasted???) slide to make it look a bit nicer. Anyone tried this at home? Does the slide need to be sanded with 600 or 800 wet or dry paper before buffing? What compound works best? What about the ejector does it have to be removed first? Any info will be appreciated.

I havent done this, however i was thinking about having a satin finish PUT on my MK9 elite model when it gets here. It is easier to keep nice looking than a polish finish...(scratches etc)...and it does not glare (for tacticality):D

I like my PM-9, too. Got it with the intention of it being a "beater", and chose the stainless slide to minimize the worry of holster wear. After shooting it a few times, I liked it more than I expected and also started thinking about pimping it out a little. :D
I polished the barrel and slide with a Dremel and some very fine rubbing compound. The barrel shined up very nicely, but the slide looks pretty much the same despite having a lot of residue come off -perhaps just a little brighter.
Looking at it in good light, mine has some pretty substantial machining lines along the whole length of the slide. The sides of the slide are pretty smooth, just the curves are rough.
I think you're probably on the right track about needing to wet sand and use a grittier compound. Might be a lot of work to get it totally smooth.
I'd really like to see pics of your results if you wet sand.
