Anyone had problems with dispensing H110 in a Lee Auto Disc?

I set up my Lee Deluxe Turret today to load .357 Magnum. I use H110 for my loads and I was experiencing a lot of binding with the turret. It wouldn't return to the down position. Seems like the H110 was getting stuck between the hopper and the disc and scratching up the underside of the hopper and causing ALOT of friction. Anyone else experience this with H110? Its been fine with Universal Clays and Power Pistol.
 
I've had that problem too with very fined grained powders with the Lee auto disc. My recommendation is to use another powder or use another powder dispenser.

2400 powder performs and dispenses wonderfully, and has ever since there has been a 357 caliber.
 
I've got nearly a lb of H110 so I'm not changing that anytime soon :) Got a recommendation for another dispenser? Is the Lee Pro Auto Disc any better?
 
Interesting timing. I just started throwing some test charges of H110 (primarily to test my scale) with a Pro Auto Disk a few hours ago. I haven't reloaded anything yet (will mostly use for 30 carbine when I do).

I have not seen any mechanical issues throwing the powder (I have the index rod out, I just use the expanding powder die) - not sure if you are having problems with the turret turning? You said "It wouldn't return to the down position" - by "it" I assume you are referring to the powder hopper assembly that rises up for a discharge?

The Pro Auto Disk is working fine (well - I'm completely at a roadblock about what's going on with my RCBS 5-0-5 scale, may send it in as RCBS suggested so they can take a look and tune it up) - far as I can tell. No binding or scraping of any sort at least. After 6 throws it even looks like the results are "normal" - in a range between 14 and 15 grains (unlike nearly 100 test charges for 9mm, which were all over the map - again, the scale may be the culprit there).

It goes up no problem. I took the die apart and the riser, etc and made sure everything was cleaned. I think the disc is grinding against the bottom of the hopper. It seemed to work fine for a couple throws and started to bind. I'll be interested to see if your Pro Auto Disc works ok for you. I'm tempted to try an adapter I found that lets you use RCBS or other manufacturers dispenser on top of a Lee Expander die. I've got a nice RCBS uniflow that I got for free from a co-worker.
 
Hmm, well I plan to do some more testing tonite so we'll see if the H110 starts to bind my hopper assembly.

Meanwhile, why not just go ahead and try the Uniflow? If you've got it and the adapter, just give it a try. Whatever works, works. If it does work, you can reserve the Auto Disk for other powders that operate smoothly with it.
 
I haven't bought the adapter yet. I have the Perfect Powder measure as well and it works great with H110. Just looking for something to use on the turret press. I may try the Pro Auto Disc since it might be a good upgrade and worst case scenario, it will still work with my .38 Spl, 9mm, and 45 ACP loads.
 
Well I'm not sure it settles the question, but so far my Pro Auto Disk is handling the H110without difficulty. I think you should give it some time with your Auto Disk, and contact Lee customer service if you can't get it to work correctly. It probably will work with some adjustments or fixing something that's not quite set up right.
 
I don't have the Pro Auto Disc. I have the one with the square hopper (on the right). I think the issue is that the bottom of the hopper and the top of the disc have just enough space to let those tiny flecks of H110 in between grind things to a halt. I've tried tightening the screws down but the way the one I have is designed it uses sheet metal type screws to bite into the plastic of the hopper rather than a bolt like the Pro Auto Disc.

From the description of the Pro Disc, it sounds like it has additional parts (wipers) that create a better seal. Since you don't seem to be having any issues I may try the Pro Auto Disc.

Call Lee and ask them about your problem and yes, the Pro Auto-Disk is much better than the standard model. (I have used both and still use the Pro)
 
I have the standard and pro autodisk, the standard will leak Accurate #7 while the pro does not. #7 is the finest powder I have used
 
The problem with the standard powder measure is the screws that seat directly into the hopper. You can't tighten them too much or you will strip the holes so you can't stop it from 'leaking" fine powders. The Pro Auto-Disk uses threaded bolts instead of screws and brass nuts to tighten the hopper to the base. You can tighten them more without doing damage and allow the rubber wiper to do it's job well.
 
glad to hear it. After a while the rubber wiper will wear out and you will need a new one. they're about a buck 50. Even with a new wiper my pro still leaks h110, and #7 pretty bad., but nothing ever binds up.

H110 had performed splendidly in my 30 carbine.

Just loaded my first batch of 30 carbine today (and shot it). Had no trouble with the H110. I assume since it's perfect for metering, this is no surprise.

greyling, I'm not sure I've noticed anything I'd call a leak. I had the same small amount of HP-38 left under the hopper after some loading.
 
all mine leak from between the top of the disk and the bottom of the hopper. not a steady stream, but every time the disk cycles a little more comes out. 20 rounds, no big deal. 200 rounds and I have to get out the dust buster.
