I have gotten back my state taxes and would like to pick up a a new .22 mag rifle. My local shop has this one for 299 with the scope.

Does anyone here have one? If so how do you like it? and any complaints?

When I was younger I believe I had what was called an 882 Marlin. It was a clip fed, bolt action .22 mag. It shot pretty well, the drawback on the gun was the trigger. Very excessive pull, probably around the 7-8# range, and a lot of creep. I don't know if the new ones have been refined any or not.

Be sure to bring some snap caps and dry fire it first. The factory triggers are heavy. There's a well-known trick using a Bic pen spring instead of the factory spring that takes the trigger pull down to something usable, but it's still stiff.

I've got its little brother, the .22 (not 22 mag) with the regular (not varmint) barrel. Adding the RifleBasix trigger ($60, I think) gave it a great trigger pull, but it's not a safe trigger on my rifle (it's possible to release the sear just by working the bolt). If I had to do it again, I'd go for something that came with a decent trigger out of the box.

I get under 1 inch5 shot groupsat 100 yards with mine... the trigger isn't the best but the rifle is capable of great accuracy.
