S&W 1911Sc

I bought a S&W 1911Sc from a large retailer here in Oklahoma City last summer...don't know why...just felt good, the price was right and I liked the lightweight frame with the 4.25" barrel. I have never seen this pistol in S&W's catalog on line, but by all accounts I believe what I purchased was probably the pre-cursor to the SW1911PD. The only difference was that my pistol has a white scandium frame with black appointments and a natural color stainless steel slide...grip safety, thumb lock, slide lock, hammer etc are all matte black. All in all a very nice looking pistol. I was skeptical of the frame mounted extractor. Kimber tried this modification a number of years ago and lived to regret it, Their version of the external, slide mounted extractor was quite a bit different than the Smith which is longer and quite a bit more narrow than the Kimber. However, the retail price of this pistol was $750 and S&W was offering a $100.00 rebate so I figured that for $650 it was worth taking a chance on as opposed to the PT1911 Taurus SS I was thinking about buying for $600.

As you can see from the prices of the S&W 1911s today, I got one hell of a deal. I also got one hell of a good pistol. The thing shoots under two inches at 25 yards...with ammo it likes. I have never experienced a FTF with either Hydro shocks, Golden Sabers, ball or Silver Tips. I have absolutely no reservations about using this pistol to defend life and limb. I still have a wait and see attitude regarding the extractor but then conventional, internal extractors have been a bain to the existence of quite a few 1911s of various makes and models so just maybe S&W is on to something. I like this pistol so well, I thinking of buying the S&W compact 1911.

I bought my sw1911pd about 2 years ago and have never looked back. Cost me about $700.00 and I feel I stole it. Have shot about 3,000 rounds through it with NO problems (although my limp wrist wife had a jam occasionally). The black melonite finish is beautiful and the rubber grips work/feel great. I researched for about a year and settled on this one, crusing gunbroker for several months to get the right deal. The trigger is a little loose but all I have changed so far is installing a different sear spring to lighten the pull. This is my favorite! (hard to tell, huh?)

+1 to what cellman said. I bought the same pistol he has about a year ago and love it. I unfortunately had to pay a little more for mine.

I bought a Gunsite when they first came out.I put almost 4000 rounds in training thru mine. The front sight gold bead flew off at about 1200 rounds.Back to S&W free and got a tritium front instead for $50 and a new extractor and spring fitted with old parts returned. It seems accurate enough, but when I took it to a gunsmith for a better barrel crown we found the barrel .030" out of round! It will have to have a new barrel for a nice crown! I am putting a Barsto in. The Gunsite is "melted" and has the "GI" style bushing and rod.
