There are a couple of people that post here at the Highroad that for one reason or another like to bash the P238, but from what i'm seeing in this thread most P238 owners like me are very satisfied with their pistol.

My HD model works well, I replaced the cheap plastic trigger with one of the stainless triggers we made for Mustangs and .380 Gov't, and that dropped right in, but there is still the problem of the cheap plastic mainspring housing, I'll be making some of those up in stainless too I guess. Other than the two plastic parts I like mine.

My dad's is great so far. 100 rounds and not a problem. It's the nicest .380 I've ever shot. It really outclasses my LCP.

Mine is trouble free. I would rely on the P 238 before I would trust a Keltec or my ruger LCP

was at my favorite gun shop today and they said they were tired of me always picking one up and not taking it out with me. I ended up taking one out tonight for $335 NIB out the door. I hope it is as good as my p230's, which I carry daily and trust whole heartedly.

I put another 50 mixed rounds through my P238. I got several light primer strikes and failures to extract/eject. That's about normal for this gun.
I like shooting this gun. Ended up chasing tin cans around the berm.:)

When SIG had the gun they put another new reciol spring in it, the 4th.
This is the spring after about 100 rounds. A new spring is on the bottom.

SIG sent me another UPS lable.

Thats cheap. I got more than that in a dealer trade getting rid of mine (a plain Jane model), and I took a beating doing the trade.

I hope it is as good as my p230's, which I carry daily and trust whole heartedly.
I have a couple as well, and they have always been great guns. They are two of the few SIG's I've kept since selling most of the others off, and I doubt they'll be going anywhere anytime soon. Unfortunately, my P238 was nothing like them. Hope yours fares better.

6X6- Does he have any more? You Got a heck of a deal! I bought one a couple of weeks ago and really like it but havent shot a full box of 50 out of it yet. So far so good.

I've got hundreds of rounds through mine - hollow point and ball ammo. Love it. No problems at all even with daily carry.

I haven't read very many negative reviews on the 238, most people who own them seem to like them and those are the people I listen to, actual owners.

My friend has had his for about a year now and he really likes it, I've shot it and I like it a lot but haven't decided to take the plunge yet on one myself.

Mine is very accurate, comfortable to shoot, and totally reliable. One of the best handguns I own.

One thing about the internet is that alot of people will buy a P238 and be happy with it and thats it, then you get those that sometimes have really big mouths and just start bashing it and that is all you hear about it.

Mine is amazing.... NO FTF or FTE since new... I didnt even clean it. Just fired it out of the box. I can't imagine it being a LEMON...

The 238 is a great gun. There is a current recall on certain ones... I can't remember a pocket pistol being released without a recall. I'm a big believer in Sig and all that they do, if you do have a problem their customer service is TOP NOTCH. So... buy from Sig with confidence.

I own 3 Sigs, none have had problems... and I'm one of the rare people who had GLOCK that was a lemon... However, it got taken care of. I didn't run around yelling at the top of my lungs that Glock's are all lemons and all junk.

I have a hard time believing that any gun is a chronic lemon from what i read on forums... there are a lot of mall ninjas that are usually the loudest voices on sites like this.

So, buy from Sig with confidence... the 238 is a beautiful gun, and more often than not you're going to have a peach... Check the recall for the serial numbers affected, and pay attention to it while buying.

After two trips to SIG and new magazines, springs, etc, I've given up on the gun. It isn't even marginally reliable enough for a carry gun.

Because I won't sell a malfunctioning gun the P238 is in the junk box along with two other gems, the SKYY CPX-1 and .380 Diamondback.

You win some and you lose some.

Mine didn't start acting up until 300 rounds. Now it won't get through a couple magazine without jamming, feeding, extracting or ejecting.

I've had my P 238 for about half a year. It had one of those 8 pound trigger pulls that we hear about so often. I corrected mine to 5 pounds after about a half hour's investigation; no new parts or trip to the factory required. Anyone interested can PM me for simple instructions for "the fix'.

Aside from that (a manufacturing fault), my 238 has performed quite well, still on the original recoil spring. Incidentally, the P 238 is maybe the only .380 with a true single-action trigger, a la 1911. Anyone who knows of others is invited to comment.

Cheers to all.

Except of course the Colt Mustang with the 238 was based off of and the Gov't 380 its bigger brother and the Llama 380 knockoff of the Govt 380. Im sure there are pleny of others too.

Backup

Since I carry a .380 as a backup I have to be able to count on it when needed and I really do not like Sig Sauers intro with this. You should not have to get a new flat recoil spring, it should have had one in the first place (what they never shot this gun?) You should not have to send it back to have it tuned up, it should have been so in the first place. You should not have to order new magazines that work, the one that came with it should have! All in all it is a pretty unreliable gun that will fill the needs of those that do not depend on it every day of thier lives. To tell you the truth my backup has been and still will be the Kel Tec P3AT (not one FTF and or FTE in thousands of qualifying shots.) Pretty disappointing gun and all that I work with want nothing to do with it!

Don't get me wrong!!

I love Sig Sauer, I carry a P220. What I don't like is the P238!
