I see talk of the 7.62x39 round, and talk of AK's but nothing on SKS rifles. I'm curious as I bought one yesterday. Its really accurate at 50 yards, so far.

Dave :)

I have one...nice enough weapon but its for sale.

I'm hoping to finance a lot of .223 for my AR or a bunch of reloading supplies with the proceeds.

Personally, I think they're more reliable and at least as accurate as any semi-auto intermediate cartridge rifle out there....2"-4" at 100yds with milspec gun shooting milspec ammo...any I've played with or owned, anyhow....

I have two SKS rifles a 1970 YUGO M59/66 and a 1965 Chinese /26\ both are all milled with screwed on barrels. Shooting Golden Tiger or Brown Bear I get about 2" groups with my reloads it goes down to 1' or less depends on what kind of day I'm having.

They're great for a cheap plinker and even for short range hunting.

res45, your gas valve is turned off.
I've always wanted to take a Yugo and go shooting with the valve off, and see if that would improve target shooting any.
I wonder if I could do that with a Yugo AK, too...

i have a norinco and i love it!

i have a norinco... and i love it. the rifle is tough and pretty accurate for the 200.00 bucks i paid for it. i wish i would have bought a couple of them when they were 79.00. no collector should be without one. my next purchase will be one Russian made.

I notice that I had just finished cleaning it and forgot to flip it back over need to take some new pics, actually on the YUGO it shoots better, mine does with the valve in semi-auto position.
Case in point

Can't leave my Chinese /26\ out. I think I breathed when I should have held.

The . 311 150 Grs. do ok but they do open up a bit.

M/N's?!.....did I say M/N's?!......well, maybe in another thread....but, the Chinee SKS pre-import version is a mighty fine weapon, and relatively cheap for a self-loader.....my 50yd targets run more along the lines of 1.5" from a bedroll with OEM sights, and I think the new owner's groups are also mighty fine for a new owner....the triggers are not exactly match-grade.....

Wow. The ammo must really make a difference. I love both my Yugo and Chinese SKS rifles, but I've been shooting cheap steel cased Wolf ammo in them. My groups are good, but not THAT good.

I wasn't aware of any SKS labeled the Type 53.
I know of a Mosin, though. I've heard of a Type 56 SKS, but not a Type 53.

Chris, I know what you mean about the Yugo being heavy. It really is heavy and long/unwieldy compared to other SKS carbines. The Chinese version feels much lighter and is definitely shorter. It's much easier to handle and feels better balanced.

+1 I'm looking at my Chinese SKS now. The characters on the side read "wu liu" (56) and not "wu san" (53). The Chinese Type 56 SKS did go through a whole lot of changes during its production. The earliest models looked very much like the Russian SKS and had blade style bayonets instead of the spike bayonets most commonly associated with Chinese models. Despite all the changes, the Chinese have always called their SKS the Type 56. There were some Chinese military weapons based on elements of the SKS and AK rifles which look like relatives of the SKS. They are the Type 63, 68, 73, 81, and 84. Those later variants had detachable mags, and some were capable of selective fire. The Type 84 was semi-auto only, but it took AK mags and had a 16'' barrel.

Of course, that doesn't even get into the Chinese commercial versions of the SKS. Some of the commercial variants are nearly identical to the military ones, but Norinco did produce a few commercial models that were different from the models used in official military service.

Wow. :what:
Okay, you can read Chinese. Uhhh...
That's a very advanced mistake to make.
*humbled*

Hey, Spiroxlii, can you post a pic or two of your Ishy on my Ishy thread? I'm checking out their fit and such.
