Anyone have an SKS here?

Nice shooting. I've got a couple of Norincos. I bought them back when they were less than $100.00 a piece. Great rifles. Ammo makes a huge difference in the accuracy. When I got into reloading for them I felt sort of silly when I could buy factory ammo for less than I could reload. But, for the price of "cheap" Wolf ammo these days I feel pretty good about loading my own now.

The 'lil lady' and I picked up a Yugo (as cosmo'ed up)and a russian...the yugo once cleaned out really good, shot remarkably well up to 100 yards, and yes the russian was lighter and seemed to be even more accurate at 50-100 yards.

What I liked the most was all the Wolf rounds they ate up,not a FTF or jam up...planning on going back out with em soon to do it again...also looking to pick up a Norinco this week if the gun store still has it.

It's been a looong day.......probably a looong month.....'56.......(sigh).......thanks for the correction.....there's bunch of other recent posts needing your hawkeye-ship.....fire when ready.....and mine's a /26\, where even basic math should've set off the mental snooze alarm.....

Well, hence the whole making fun of you for the typo. :D And Res45 got away with it because he posted pics. :neener:

Nolo, I'll do that for you tomorrow! I've gotta retrieve my digital camera when I see my family tomorrow for father's day. Then I'll take some pics of my Ishapore and post 'em on your thread. Be warned, though... I've inspected it and cleaned it enough to shoot it, but I haven't stripped and refinished her stock yet.

Exactly how I want her... ;)

I still feel properly castigated....and rightfully so.....thanks for the correction....I'm thinking of selling mine with scads of spares and 800rds of ammo to buy a new toy....does $300 plus shipping on both sound out of line?

DUDE!
Mtngunr...
I'd buy that stuff.
Whoohoo!
Would you be willing to do such a deal?
PM me. I'm a minor, but my dad's getting me a rifle, and I've been shopping around. Haven't seen any Chinese SKS's for sale yet, but heard they're excellent.

Mtngunr, that sounds reasonable if the SKS is in good shape. I just wonder what shipping costs would be on a rifle and that much ammo! :)

Nolo, it'd make a good first SKS if it's in good shape. I like my Chinese one because it just feels right in my hands, and it shoots well. It will eat any ammo without complaint. It's certainly better balanced and lighter than a Yugo, though I love the Yugos too.

I've got a Yugo 59/66 and I really like it, its a blast to shoot and its "minute of felon" accurate, good enough for me.:D I shoot mine off-hand, which is challenging, iron sights, I can do 2" groups at 50 yards with Wolf ammo.:)

I bought a detachable mag for my SKS. It failed to feed. I took it out and put it under the tire of my car, then I backed over it.

I reinstalled the 10rd fixed mag after that. :)

If you have detachable mags for your SKS that work reliably, then more power to you! I just won't use them in mine right now. Maybe if I pick up an SKS with a really rough stock, I'll try to fit a synthetic stock to it and I'll give detachable mags another try.

I have a Russian (54 Tula) and a Yugo. I frankly have no issues with the weight of the Yugo and find it an advantage on bags at the range. As noted both are very accurate. Stripper clips are a must and allow for a respectable rate of fire and have some advantages over larger capacity magazines.

As I PM'd Nolo, and to paraphrase Bill Jordan, if you can't fight your way out with 10rds, what makes you think things are gonna get better with another 10?......

As an FYI, it's a 95%+ /26\ gun circa '79, all-matching, GI.....much better than average....my first one was an export version which appeared to be assembled by children and old women, which it undoubtably was.....

I still enjoy firing my sks. Sent it home in 1968 from Vietnam and still have the paper work someplace.

Wow Justin, the stock on my Yugo looks like a twin to yours. I sanded it down a little once I got all the cosmo sweated out of it and put one coat of tru-oil on it. I wanted to dress it up a little bit while still retaining the original character, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
