I have a Delton stripped lower sitting around that I'm going to build into my first AR. I'm not in any particular hurry to get it together so I'm going to try to find the best deals on used parts that I can and slowly put it together as I find good deals on the parts I want. I would like to end up with a 16" upper with mid-length gas system. I'm thinking the best way to do it is to by a lower parts kit from Delton for $55 ( http://www.del-ton.com/AR_15_Lower_Parts_Standard_s/85.htm ) then look for a good deal on a used butt stock and upper. I'm open to any thoughts or advice on this tho. Also if anyone has a used parts sitting around that they aren't using I'd be happy to buy them from you if the price is right, lol

The overall price of a complete rifle kit from Del-Ton is extremely competitive and will be hard to beat buying piecemeal from elsewhere. You would also end up with a rifle with everything from Del-Ton, if you care. I would look at that option first.

If you go with a rifle kit I would only look at Del-Ton and PSA. PSA has some appealing claimed features but I've had some service issues with them and apparently others have too. Probably just growing pains but be forewarned. Del-Ton has provided good service in my experience, but can have fairly long waits from ordering to shipping of a rifle kit.

Of course there are also higher quality options for more money, but my impression is that you are looking for lowest cost.

thanks, and yest I'm looking for low cost, but don't want to end up with something so cheap it's not worth having. Also it's mainly going to be a range toy so no need for spending more money for a milspec upper. I've thought about going for the kit from Delton, it seems to be a good price at $470 or $515 if I pay the extra $45 for a chrome lined barrel. I don't have to much motivation to keep the build all the same brand, is there any reason to try and keep it all the same brand that I should know about? I am just wondering if it would be any cheaper if I could find a good deal on a used butt stock and upper. Any ideas on where to look for used AR parts? I was kinda hoping that someone would have a used upper or butt stock sitting around that they could sell me.

With shipping prices as they are, and if looking for bottom dollar, I'd try to receive from as few different addresses as possible.

there's so much rebadging of ar15 stuff it's hard to shop it. I have a sneaky suspicion that delton, cmmg, bushmaster, bcm, spikes, etc all buy form the same parts maker, with some of the more highly thought of brands simply culling the worst parts out. But I can't prove that.

you might try ar15.com equipment exchange for used buttstocks.

buttstocks are cheap, just make sure the tube is aluminum, not plastic.for 515 with a chrome lined bbl, is a cheap deal.ask about a gisselle ssa trigger.

just ask deltron if there stock is a 4 or 6 position aluminum tube.if it is,pick one,.take their full set and add the gisselle trigger and your set.decide on fixed or folding front site.if your gonna shop, figure at least 10-15 bucks in shipping costs per buy, which would pay for the trigger.check cheaperthandirt.com or amazon.com for buttstock if deltron doesn't have.

ok, I might just save up for a little while until I can afford to buy a the whole parts kit at once. Now I just have to figure out weather to order it from Del-Ton or PSA, Del-Ton is a little cheaper, but since I live in NC and they are NC I would have to pay sales tax. Del-Ton doesn't offer a ssa trigger as an option, but they doe offer a RRA two stage trigger an option for an extra $80 is a RRA two stage trigger worth that? I know it would cost around $130 if I added it later.

The SSA is now in the $180 range and would be an, ahem, unusual choice on a budget build. Geissele makes great stuff (I have several) but it ain't cheap.

The one DTI parts kit I used had a good trigger feel. I would just use the standard GI trigger. The RRA trigger has a very good feel at first (lighter but grittier than a Geissele SSA) but numerous reports indicate they don't have long term durability. And I just really don't see the purpose of a lightweight 2-stage trigger on a budget carbine, any more than I would put a 4-16x50 scope on it.

Yes PSA has some growing pains but they are quick to make it right from my experience assembling one.

I've been looking around myself...it seems everywhere I go though, everything is out of stock. Brownell's, Midway, Bravo Company
