Smith & Wesson's website shows a new addition. The 340ss appears to be the same as the 340pd except with a stainless cylinder instead of titanium.

Does anyone here have one of these or personally handled one? Is the cost significantly less than a 340pd?

I was under the impression there were special problems concerning cleaning and shooting lead with the titanium cylinder. Is this true? The stainless cylinder would eliminate this concern.

Any suggestions or opinions?

There is a guy on http://www.smith-wessonforum.com under the "S&W revolvers 1945+" who posted about one he bought. Not sure what he paid though, and I don't know if S&W lifted the restrictions about jacketed ammo only & weight.

I'm pretty sure the guns are a limited run for Lew Horton, unless they are making them a regular item.

The 340SS looks like it might be a nice gun, but i'm kind of waiting for the S&W 340 M&P. Similar to the 340SS w/a blackened SS cylinder and "possibly" no lock...

Does anyone have any details when this one will be available?

mike_bullet,

Thanks, but I was talking about the upcoming M&P 340. It is supposed to be released in 2007.
