I just discovered this existed. It looks like an easy way to clean my pcc. BTW I dislike cleaning guns. But can you just drop the entire upper (minus any electronic stuff of course) into it and wait for it to clean it? How well does it work? What are the downsides to it? It's expensive, but if it really makes cleaning guns easy it might be worth it in the long run. Thanks

I don't own one but it seems like something you might use for a once a year deep cleaning. You're going to have to remove your optic if you run one. Then after you sonic clean the entire gun is going to need to be rinsed, wiped down and oiled to prevent any rust from forming isn't it?

Yes, according the videos I've watched. But I'm thinking a quick rinse in the tub or outside in warmer weather then drying with my air compressor would do that. Then spray Ballistol all over it and I'm done.
At least that's what I THINK. I'm looking for someone who has messed with one to tell be if I'm right or not. I think I'd use it every time since those blowback pccs get so dirty so quickly.

I'm interested in this too. I run a piston gun so it is not so dirty but the sonic sure seems like it would work nice for small parts that are hard to get to.

Works great you can do two ar uppers at the same time. But if you only just do your firearms. If you want to do your brass too it is not cost effective. You need two different mixtures of cleaning solutions.

Yes, how do you handle cleanup, and do you drain the tank every time and/or can you use the hose to drain off the liquid into a bucket and let the gunk settle down and then re-use the remaining solution.

BTW Allen, Natchez has discounts now and it looks like you could get one for $331 using the greatest discount offer. They have multiple discounts, but it looks like the online ordering system only lets you use one. If I decide to buy one I'll call to see if I can combine discounts. But I doubt it.

Be VERY mindful of your chemistry. Some brass cleaners will strip bluing, or can “plate” (ion exchange) residual brass only gunnparts.

My advice would be to ONLY ever clean gun parts in it, or if used for brass, isolate the brass in suspended vessels.

I have two of the 2L Hornady units, they work well and seem to last (~8yrs and counting), and a larger industrial ultrasonic cleaner I use for gun parts.

Hornady has a separate chemical for gun parts and brass. I'm only interested in cleaning my guns. I dislike that job. I do my brass in a vibrator.

The “plating” opportunity happens when you use the same reservoir to clean brass, leaving some residual brass on the skin of the reservoir, then clean gun parts with the other solvents. I clean my reservoir with brass solvent, sans brass, before swapping to clean gun parts. Better still, suspend a glass vessel in the basin for all cleaning.

When I first started I would clean my guns, drain the vat, clean the vat, run brass. This was not time efficient or cost efficient. Now, all I do with it is clean my guns. I call it doing dishes. I hate doing dishes.

Now, this is how I do it. The first thing I do is turn the heater on then I disassemble my gun, looking at each part for cleanliness, wear, and broken parts. I then run my parts threw two thirty minute runs. When that is done I bring the parts over to the mop sink and rinse them off thoroughly After that I dip each part into a boiling vat of water three times and set it off to the side to dry. After ten minutes I check to see how dry it is and blow it off with the air compressor if needed. Now, after I ensure that everything is completely dry I then spray the parts with dry lube and oil certain parts and then I hang the parts to dry.

Now, the next day is the most important. I check each part for surface rust. That Hornady cleaner is good. Not only will it clean off what you want to be cleaned but it will remove all protective oil. I will run one vat of cleaner a max of four times.

Thanks Drainsmith, Even though I don't need to spend any more on these black friday deals I think this may be worth it as I hate cleaning guns too. The way you do it is how I envisioned. Not totally hassle free, but better.

I'm still debating this with myself (what's that saying about arguing with a fool?) and just wanted to bump this up in case anyone else had any input.
