That is.... does anyone else have a problem drawing from a pocket holster?

I've had occasion to carry my new little P3AT a couple of times recently (they're VERY useful for doctor's visits, as I found today!) and they just blend in with my jeans or khakis. But when I try to draw from the holster (practice, of course) the whole holster comes out too. :banghead:

Over the last few years I've chosen jeans and slacks that are slightly large, so that I can comfortably carry IWB. That might be feeding this problem, IDK, but does anyone else have their pocket holster come right on out with the gun when they draw?

same problem here. 3 possible solutions:

1: practice draw holster and pistol together and dump the holster(my preference)
2: get some double sided tape for the outside of your holster. Though it will leave a sticky residue in your pocket.
3: get some velcro and a put one part on the holster and one on the inside of the pocket, but that's alot of velcro for all possible carry pants.

What kind of pocket holster? A well-designed one made specifically for that gun should stay put. Is it possible that you're snagging or trapping the holster against the gun with your trigger or second finger? Does it fit tightly on the gun to start with? (Refer back to well-designed.)

(In interest of full disclosure, I do not own this particular gun. My pocket gun is a Kahr PM9 in a Mika.)

I've had this happen with my Uncle Mike's pocket holster for my Kahr MK9 occasionally -- especially when it's in a jacket pocket.

It helps if the pocket has something the holster can 'grab' during the draw. I've started using a holster that has velcro on it for jacket pocket carry, it has stayed put 100% of the time when I practice drawing from it.

I had the problem with Uncle Mike's but no trouble at all since switching to the Destantis Nemesis.

I believe they have another "sticky" one called Super Fly as well (I even like the name).

Good luck.

Destantis Nemesis for pocket carry or a Keltec belt clip for IWB carry is the only way to go.

My wife has this gun too. Nice little gun. I use it every now and again too. But the guys who have said that the Nemesis by Desantis is the way to go, are absolutely correct. That holster is amazing. It never comes out of your pocket unless you purposely make it come out.:D

Robert Mika markets his holsters on their reliability, and seems to be right...they're specifically designed for the gun of your choice, and everyone says that they are less likely to do this.

Maybe look into getting one of his. I'm waiting on mine. The waiting period is about 6 weeks.

Mika good stuff

he makes good stuff IMO. nothing fancy but just does the job..

+1 on the Desantis Nemesis. The outside of the holster is very tacky and clings to the pocket. For extra insurance I push my hand towards the back of my pocket as I draw to swipe the holster off of the weapon. Kind of like you are "wiping" the holster off with the back edge of your pocket.

My carry gun is a Keltec P3AT. I carry in a Don Hume leather pocket holster. I think I understand the problem you're having. I have some tight jeans, some loose jeans, some loose dress pants and even some baggier pants. If the pocket doesn't "fit" the holster right, then the holster can come out when you draw. The Don Hume has a "hook" of leather at the bottom that's supposed to help catch the edge of the pocket when you draw to make sure that only the gun comes out.

Nevertheless, when I practice drawing, I sometimes get just the gun, but sometimes get the gun AND the holster. I also sometimes get the holster to catch on the pocket just enough to have it drop to the floor as it comes free of the gun.

My recommendation is to get a holster with a hook like the Don Hume and try to make sure that you tilt the gun enough to get the holster to catch on your pocket as you draw.

I will also say that situational awareness probably goes a long way. I never expect to have to use my gun, but it could happen. If it does happen, I imagine that I won't need a Wild-West quick draw to win the fight, but rather a moderately fast draw, which should give me time to make sure the gun is free from the holster. If I do need a quick-draw, well, I just hope that I'm wearing tighter pants.

Good luck.

I have a Mika for my P3AT, and a DeSantis Nemesis for my Kahr PM9. Both work great and stay put. Each is under $20, both are worth owning IMHO.

My leather holster for another .380 had that problem but I got a nemesis for the P3AT and it does stay in the pocket quite well, the grippy outside helps a lot. I'd try a nemesis. Even if you don't like it you are out $16 or so (got mine at Midway last time I ordered other things).

One thing I've done is to sew a small, short strap on to the pocket holster and attach an alligator clip to that strap. Then you just reach into your pocket and clip the holster into the inside of the pocket, when you draw the holster might start to follow the gun but the strap will stop it.

Thanks to all for the great ideas. I may try the "alligator clip" idea for now, and will take a look at the Desantis.

Thanks again, y'all!
