I hope this isn't some kind of THR rules infraction, not trying to cause trouble, just looking for some info. There's a thread in the "AK47" and "magazine" section on arfcom about a guy named "Dan" that has some bakelite mags he's selling reasonably. Several posters said he was a good guy to deal with, and then they started PM-ing, and i'm unable to join because of my "anonymous" e-mail address.
Here's a link to the thread....

I'm hoping someone can get me some contact info for "Dan" with the $46-delivered AK bakelite mags !!! As always, any help muchly appreciated.....M.

You know, I tried to join and ran into the same brick wall. Some bird named Ed deigned once to answer and tell me essentially "tough", then never bothered to answer my follow-up email where I tried very politely to reason with him and offered references to prove I actually existed.

AR15.com can pound sand.

:cuss: 'em.

i hit the same wall too :cuss:,

but here's the thing...you cant use yahoo, hotmail msn....because anyone can get a free account from them, you need to use your ISP (internet service provider) email, like the one they give you to log on to your internet service or...if you are on cable (like me) just call the company you have internet service with and ask them for your email.

Yep, and I don't use them. I have my own domain and my email comes through that.

Didn't matter in the least to the pinhead I dealt with.

His stance was essentially, "Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up".

Life's too short to put up with or deal with that puckey. It's their ballpark, their rules - and they're welcome to it.

I am

I am a member of AR15.com and enjoy looking at the site, have gotten several deals form the equipment exchange. I used my regular email and had no problems. IMO ar15.com is alot better than some boards out there. Joined one board recently that I wont name, but you had to have a certain number of posts before they would let you view all of the threads. I can understand not letting people sell stuff until they have been involved for a while, however they wont let you view the for sale ads or the political threads. Needless to say I am no longer a member of that board. I like it here and on ar15.com better than any other that Ive come across

AR15.com has a huge number of members and problems with trolls/intentionally disruptive people that I wouldn't wish on my enemy.

Frankly, limiting the email addresses makes it a lot easier on the moderators. AR15.com is a great resource if you own an AR and worth the trouble of giving them a solid email.

Bart,

I can fully appreciate the troll, etc., situation that a site such as theirs has to deal with.

Which is why after they refused my initial application I furnished "Ed" with a considerable amount of information on my various online accounts and activity - all of it easily verifiable. And I can't give them a more solid email account than the one I use through my own domain, which is likewise the one I use here and everywhere else on the WorldWideWeb.

I don't doubt Ed has better things to do with his time than worry about whether I manage to get a membership at his site. It was the curt, bordering on if not outright rude, dismissal of my genuine and polite attempts to try to work with his refusal of my application that led me to my current position:

AR15.com can pound sand.

I recognize that they are indeed a worthwhile resource and helpful to many people. I'll live without them and they without me and the planet will keep on turning.

:)

Arfcom ain't what it used to be.
But I do understand why they have to do many of the things they do.

If I am not mistaken, TacticalForums has that same rule.

I had to register with an obscure mail.com email address or I wouldn't have got on. It is a free account, so I don't mind too much, just would prefer to stick with Yahoo for everything.

I used to be, but the forums got to be mind-numbingly awful to read. I, sadly, don't understand most internet shorthand, nor do I endeavor to learn it. I also noticed that the moderators there are extremely anal about certain things, but terribly lax about others. This changes with the wind. They can keep their teenaged minds occupied there while we have intelligent discussions here. They are not missed.

A quick read through the General Discussion forum will show that ARFcom is an embarrassment to the shooting community.

EDIT: Just to emphasize the point, I went over to ARFcom to see what the latest topic was in the General forum. The topic at the top of the page was "Why do adult males fantasize about spanking women?"

Some touchy moderators on thefiringline.com as well. A lifetime ban is only one smarta** comment away. I believe some of these mods to be lacking something in their life that being a mod gives them a god-like sense of power over ppl.

If you really want to join, but only have a free email account (Yahoo, Hotmail etc.), have someone with a "non-free" email sign you up, then you can go into your settings, and change your email to anything you want. It's just the signing up part that sticks ya.

I agree there's a lot of bull on Arfcom (especially in the General forum. I don't even bother looking there, it's ridiculous), but there's a lot of info too. Weed through the bull and you can pick up some great info.

The good things about arfcom:

The for sale section there (Equipment Exchange) is great. You can find great deals, and sell your stuff REALLY fast.

The hometown forums. Easy to get in contact with people local to you. You won't find that anywhere else.
