Flawlessly reliable, due to the bottleneck cartridge. Light recoil, but "snappy" is correct. Noticeably louder than most pistols (a sharp crack that will draw onlookers at the range) because at upwards of 1400 fps, the 86 gr. pill is most definitely supersonic. The pistol is very thin (nice for carry, tho chamber-empty carry would be mandated by the goofy safety set up), and has grips that are easy to hold.
Triggers, fit and finish vary - best I've seen have been on the Polskas (which SOG has for $149.99 - I got one and have been very pleased). Our friends at Cruffler.com have a review up - it's well worth a look. (I'll let you google the links; I'm busy this a.m.)

Very reliable, decent sights, Polish Toks are the best and triggers vary dramatically from sample to sample. The best way to buy would be if you can sample from a large number and choose the one with best trigger, finish and bore.

Shot Russian version: mediorce sights, poor crip angle, poor accuracy (6" at 21ft) and heavy trigger. Thin and reliable though.
So how about the CZ-52 for carry...
So how does the CZ-52 compare? I understand that they are safe in condition 1 or condition 2 (assuming that the firingpin block has not been removed for better trigger). Are they much more difficult to conceal (bigger/fatter)?

I have a chinese tok
and its a real blast to shoot. Accurate too. the chinese ammo works very reliably and the gun hav never in apros 2500 rounds had a problem. Best $150 I ever spend(along with my Makorov)
buy one you won't reguret it. Someday I hope to optain one in 9mm as well.

I'd go with the CZ-52. It's the better gun. Stronger action - and I think it's much smoother than any Tok... It's able to handle the hotter 7.62 loads... the ones that run 16-1800 FPS.
When your shooting those hotter loads... feels like your cracking of full house .357 Magnums!
And the gun is so slick and slim... makes for a great IWB carry gun. Seriously. It's one of my favorite guns.

The CZ-52 isn't without its defects, but it is much cooler (and generally better IMHO) than the Tokarev.

CZ-52 for carry? Not quite suited. I'm going to customize mine more than trigger work and wood grips which is already done.
I feel to be carry suitable the gun needs.
#1 New commercial HP load offerings, I'm sure there are a few.
#2 New firing pin that won't break.
#3. Real sights.
#4 A real slide release. I am just going to modify my lever. As is the only way to unlock the slide is by racking it and occasionally on mine the release will get stuck and you have to pull the slide back and pry down on the release to free it.
#5 A real mag release. I've got it in my head that I can adapt a 1911 style release to work and modify the mags accordingly.
From what I've seen of mine I would probably carry chambered, just follow the hammer with my thumb also while decocking.
In lieu of commercial HP a 40gr Blitzking shoved in a sabot would suffice. Ought to be able to jack it out at 2000+

CZ 52 as a carry gun???? George are you smoking whacky weed? That's a pretty big belt gun, even by our standards.
The biggest thing I dislike about The TOK and the CZ is the wierd almost verical grip angle.. which produces the "snappiness" in recoil. They are LOUD compared to other pistols and no doubt you'll know exactly when it goes off. Some of them throw big fireballs too (but that depends on ammunition of course).
First time I saw a guy shoot a CZ 52 he had NEVER cleaned it. Brought it to the range, unwrapped it, shoved 5 rounds in the comsoline-sticky magazine, racked at started shooting. To the gun's credit, it didn't jam, or explode and I don't recommend you try this at home. (He had splattered the target with melted cosmoline). I pointed this fact out to him, but he didn't seem like he was in the mood to listen. By the time I had left the range he still had all his fingers.
I'd go with the Polish T-33 and shoot some modern ammo in it, after all it would suck to get a gorgeous deep blue gun and shoot corrosive ammo through it.

I have a CZ52 but do not carry it I shot a 8" cottonwood with some of the FMJ Hungarian ammo went through like hot butter.
I load 90g Hornady JHP you should see the expansion of a bullet going 1600+FPS WOW.

I've got 2 CZ-52s that I use as casual shooters. Both are good general purpose shooters, but I wouldn't keep it as a carry gun.

I'm the proud owner of a CZ-52. Neat pistol to be sure. The only pistol I own that gets a lot of copper fouling (don't know why). Shoots well, with a snappy little recoil. Loud too... But as I live in California, carrying it around is out of the question. I'm real eager to try out .223 Timbs rounds in it... The CZ-52 is one of the better values I've found in the surplus market.

I realize that there are a lot of CZ52 fans out there, but I believe the Tok is a better pistol. In my experience the CZ52 suffers from trigger slap and a tendency to have trigger pins move out of the frame. Then there is the problems of accidental discharge when decocking the hammer on some guns and fragile firing pins. Also the myth of Cz52 strength: one of our posters (Clark?) has demonstrated to my satisfaction that the Tok is actually stronger.
As for as a carry gun, I would suggest that neither is ideal, both are full size military guns ( the Tok has a size advantage) and both probably should be carried in condition 3.
I own both and when I shoot either it's usually the Tok because to me it's more comfortable.

Here is the catch... I have been making and selling bonded core rifle bullets in .308, .311 and .313. I test them using a Polish M44. I was thinking of expanding (no pun intended) the product line to include handgun bullets for 7.62x25 and M-1 Carbine but I don't have a pistol to do the testing. My concern is that the jackets that I am using are too thick for proper expansion at handgun velocities but these rounds run pretty fast so I would like to determine whether these jackets will work or whether I need to get some thinner ones. In exchange for the bullets you have to promise that you will fire them into water soaked newspapers and report back to me with information on

1. I carried it with an empty chamber, with a loaded mag.
2. No, it wasn't awkard to carry... or too big. My other IWB guns that are larger than a CZ-52: 1911, P220, HK USP .40 full sized, P228, Beretta 92FS (currently), HK VP-70, HK P9. HK P7 M13... and various other guns. The 52 was one of the easier ones to carry. The gun is thin and smooth... Rides easy.
3. No, don't pack it around with FMJ loads... That would be bad..
Well unless your on a road trip and might have to shoot through a windshield or car door or something armored....
