Apparently, this guy was ripping off people from all over the web on the various gun for sale/auction sites. GunsAmerica put out their Blog email this morning and I read this and seem to remember some threads about this guy and I'm pretty sure this guy ripped off my friend on a Colt Python purchase (he never saw the gun and sent the guy $800). Read the article to see some good tips about how to avoid getting scammed by scum like this.

Ok, I just showed that article to my friend who got scammed on a Colt Python and it was indeed this turd who did it to him. He is contacting the Lee County Prosecutor to see if he can submit some evidence and get this clown put in jail for a long time.

I'm glad that someone out there cared enough to bring this guy down.

That terd makes Florida look bad... =(

Don't be to hard on yourselves. There are a$$&*(@$ in all 50 states. Even a few I am ashamed to admit here in TX. Just be happy this one was caught.

I do all my on line purchases on Gun Broker from dealers with store fronts. Never had a problem. I used GunsAmerica only once. got my rifle.

the majority of sellers on GA have storefronts or are FFL holders. When I buy on there, I just filter all results by FFL Holders ONLY. Never had a problem and I have bought about 25 guns off there

I haven't and doubt will ever buy a gun or any big ticket item on line. All the possible good deals one could find are wiped out by one rip off like the OP's friend.
The closest I have come was selling a 20k boat to a guy a few states over, I met the buyer out in the middle of Utah, a hundred miles from the meet point my bank called and said the money had been deposited in my account from his bank.
If I wouldn't have got the call we would have waited or the deal would have been off.

X-rap you just have to know what sites are legitimate and which are not. The websites like buds and cdnn can be trusted and have good deals. If I was to buy a gun online I would use those types of sites, the ones recommended by the masses.

As far as gun auctions go, if I was to purchase a firearm off of one of those sites I would not buy from someone who isn't an FFL holder.

There are a number of protections in place for internet sales. Credit card/debit card companies will give your money back first and figure it all out later. Sending money through the post office and being ripped off is a federal offense I believe, and they will help you. Never use cash for an internet purchase.

The only time that I have ever had issues with my debit card was when a delivery boy for a sandwich company got a hold of the number and started using it to buy skateboard equipment. The bank called to ask why I was purchasing from out of the country and cancelled the purchase immediately when I said "No I did not buy that". My money was immediately put back into my account.

I am into knives pretty heavily and one of the web forums has a section called "the good, the bad, and the ugly" that has reviews and experiences with just about everyone that you could possibly buy a knife from. Ebay sellers are even listed. I know that guns are not sold on Ebay but something similar on this website or a different forum would be a big benefit for those of us who only buy 1 gun a year and may want to look online for the best deal.

Also X-rap I am not trying to attack you in anyway just saying you shouldn't write off the internet because of a couple bad eggs.

I have looked at numerous different sites classisfieds and I really don't see that many deals that can beat what I have available locally especially when you look at transfer and handling costs that might be tacked on.
I do see quite a few comments/ratings on the various sites and would certainly check them as well.
Ebay is a whole different animal and their system is pretty solid, my concern is mainly with the classifieds type of transaction across the country and the ability of fraud in general on the www.
Legit sites and dealers really don't bother me since most do have actual storefronts as well.

I got 1 from Fl gun trader, but only Face to face. The guy took forever to pin down a date. When he did show, he almost didn't want to get out of his truck, I tried to get in, and he got out after that. I said well what are you thinking about doing? are we trading guns or not, to which he asked to see alll my stuff and mine was packaged proper, everything easy to look at and all in a nice box with my paperwork, his was in a brown "lunch bag".
But I ran it over the internet on my cell and it was clean and he had a license. It was a S&W, and in near perfect condition. So you never know what or who is going to show up. When I saw the Dodge Ram and hour late, and a guy in head to toe cameo, and boots, and hat, I knew that had to be my guy. It was like a miami vice deal.
