I had $25 left over on a Visa gift card, so I went ahead and ordered two of these. I'm just curious what to expect in terms of steel quality, since there's no info and no brand name. My expectations are low, but if these are genuinely decent knives, I might order a few for gifts.

I got three of them and am very happy. The steel takes sharpening and has been fine with edge retention. The knives are comfortable in the hand and haven't slipped so far. They're great ten dollar knives.

The Brand is a Frost, the knife is a Mora. Good laminated steel, one of the sharpest knifes from the manufacturer I have ever gotten. I have 2 both had wood handles, one I have removed to regrip with some nice bubinga wood I have.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll be ordering up another pair to give to my father and brother and saving these two for myself.

For that price

The blade alone is worth stripping that ugly plastic/rubber abomination off. Put a nice piece of scrap wood and you could have something really nice. Of course you'd still have that guly plastic sheath........

The handle is ugly, but it's comfortable enough and doesn't slip. The sheath holds the blade firmly and is waterproof - a consideration in Western Oregon.

Mora knives are friggin' awesome. There is a large & loyal group of survival practioners (Bushcrafters) all over the world who train to go out into the wilderness with nothing more than a Mora knife. Moras are decendants of Scandinavian knives used by the Swedes, Norwegians, Finns, etc. who are used to harsh extremes living around the Arctic Circle.

Rather than take the handle off-of these Moras, just buy the blades separately for mounting.

Try Ragnar at www.ragweedforge.com

I love those scandi moras (and puukos) but I prefer the Eriksons to the Frost brand for taking an edge.
At under $10 ea I can keep several around wherever I might need one like the barn, truck glove box, fishing boat and tackle box, backpack, etc.
+1 for Ragnar at ragweedforge.com = great guy to deal with

That's a very nice knife. I have the same model, but had to buy it elsewhere. SG was refusing to ship cutlery to Connecticut at the time. Above the edge grind, it wasn't finished so well, but it came with a beautiful edge on it. Probably the best value for the money right now. The handle is pretty comfortable, and the rubber is nice too.

The only thing I don;t care for is the belt attachment on the sheath.

I would buy another 1 any day of the week.

I have a couple of Moras and for the money they simply can't be beat. They came sharp and retain their edges well. I got one from Smokey Mountain Knifeworks and the other from Ragnar's Ragweed forge.

Just got a Swedish Sportsman's Guide Mora today. Its very well made, though not a work of art. I really like the grip, it fills my hand well.
