Anyone shoot balloons?

I get bored shooting paper so I have some favorite reactive targets on my home range. Wood - 2x4 and 2x6 chunks of lumber cut to 4 in. and 6 in. painted yellow. I'm a wood worker so I have used saw blades available, these are also painted yellow and hung by wire so they dance around when hit. Sometimes these come to rest so you have an edge shot (1/8 in.).

My all time favorite is ice. Freeze the water in various size round plastic tubs, pop them out of the container and refill. Sometimes it's a battle for space as these things multiply in the freezer. At the range set them up with the round end towards the shooter. They positively explode when hit, sending a shower of ice flakes in all directions. Biodegradable, no clean up.

Balloons

When my children were growing up. I set out balloons for them each morning before school. They were given one 22 long rifle round and had to shoot from a set distance. It they hit the balloon they got 10 cents. If they missed they owned me a penny. As they got older the balloons got smaller and they had to get further away. All became reasonable rifle shooters from this.

They had a lot of fun and earned some money.

Funny that you bring that up! A buddy and I were just shooting some balloons the other day at the range. It was interesting. I've never shot anything that moved like that in the wind before and it put a new twist on shooting for me.

Anyone shoot balloons

I went by the local bowling alley the other day and picked up about 50 discarded pins. They were free and make great targets.

Been working them over with my single and double action revolvers and it is a hoot. The 357 & cal. 45 lead bullets don't tear them up too bad and its great practice for one-handed snap shots (you won't always be able to use the proper two handed hold).

You can tell from the direction they fall if the hits were COM or not.

I fill pop cans with water. They explode quite nicely. Empty pop cans don't always knock down. I've found several cans that I set up fresh that, after shooting, still stood, but had holes in them.
