I will have my 58 Remmy on the hip as a backup for this deer season. If the opportunity presents itself I will try to take a whitetail with it. 42 grains pydrodex-p and .454 lead ball. I figure within 20 yards its game on!

I'd prefer to use Swiss, Olde Eynsford, or Triple 7 as they produce more velocity for the same volume charge. Most of the velocities I've seen for Goex and Pyrodex, as well as the many other powders not mentioned, have given energy figures closer to a 38 Spl. But every now and then I see higher numbers closer to a 44 Spl. But I've seen people mention complete passthroughs of deer out at 100-125 yds with a PRB that only has 300 and something ft/lbs of energy or so. So it may well be good enough. I'd rather have more though, but my concern is more with hogs.

Don't know if I'll get a chance this year but I got the ROA's I have specifically to try Kaido's bullets and 777. I have heard tell of 400+ ft lbs loads.

Yes, if the opportunity presents. I used my Schofield .45Colt to put down a spine-hit buck Monday. I had forgotten to refill my ball bag and only had two .530 balls for the Hawken. Shot went high and broke the spine but did not kill him.

Killed a button buck last year with the 3rd Model Dragoon.

I got one with my Ruger Old Army. Having trouble posting pic

Not this year but possibly next year. Its accurate enough but I'm just not that familiar with the sights in a hunting situation, at the range I'm fine but not out in the woods, and I need to get a bit more confident with it. Then I'll go. ;)

I'll be taking my Rogers & Spencer have not decided on the projectile,454 RB or 195gr. conical . Our season starts this Sat. and the weather looks miserable. Thunderstorms Sat. and Sun. and a frozen mix of precip on Mon..
Will be doing the "if it's brown it's down" as I need the meat and I haven't found a way to tenderize the antlers . Would be nice if one of the big bucks I have seen in the area is my meat.If not ,oh well.

Thought Wisconsin deer gun season didn't start till the 23rd. When I learned deer hunting the season started after August and we covered the basement windows while the butchering was done.

Yup. I load my .45 colt revolver with black powder cartridges. Today was opening and I didn't see anything -- only wind and rain, 2 squirrels, a flock of woodpeckers, and some geese. I'll try again tomorrow.

The deer don't go away when it rains! My buddy told me this once in a miserable storm. Didn't help though, we didn't see any until the weather opened back up.

BP handguns aren't legal to use in CO, so the Hunter Education Trainer told me. I was kinda disappointed, was hoping I could use my Walker. Probably a good thing though, or guys would be taking impossible shots and just injuring elk and deer.

And Thanksgiving this year is the 28th meaning the 23rd is the starting date.

You are so right . I thought for sure turkey day was this next thursday.
This is great . I have another week to get some things done before the season starts. Thanks for waking me up.
