saw a clip of it in action, looks do-able. found one at walmart but no money in jeans, will pick one up tomorrow. about thirty bucks.

Imagine the angles with this baby!!

I've never tried it but I do have something similar that shoots tennis balls for dogs to fetch. It will launch a tennis ball to about 60 yards so I would think they would have enough juice to throw clay pretty far.

Is it actually for clay pigeons? duhhhhh...I just looked closer and saw the clay in the launcher..my bad.. :p

For the same $30

You can get a Do-All brand Competitor model. Spring loaded arm, stakes into the ground, will throw a clay about 80 or 90 yards. Got one, like it.

I went a bit further. For $100 I bought one that has legs and you can sit while launching clays. My 110 daughter can operate it and she didn't give out even after a box and a half of clay pigions. Other types she can barely get cocked. If you shoot enough clay to justify the expense, the $100 for this "Do All Traps" is well worht it. It's the best launcher I've ever had.

I have the other types of traps you mentioned, but

this one would be infinatley more versatile in the angles and directions catagory,no?
My lady friend does not like cocking a regular trap, but this one could be shot by just about anyone I would think.
I'll pick one up and have a range report on it soon.

The EZ trap throwers (red plastic handheld) are hard to beat..if you can find one with the fibergalss extension you can really zing one. Simpler than that thing you're looking at.

Smoke

The Trius One-Step is a pretty decent trap at about $100. There is no tension to cocking and loading the trap. The trap is tensioned and released by stepping on a foot pedal. You can even operate this solo if you want. It takes a little bit of weight to operate the foot pedal but it is very safe. With a little experimenting you can get several different throws out of the same setup and even doubles.

On a related note, check out the video entitled, "Second Hand Lions", starring R. Duvall, M. Caine and Haley Osmont. There is a great segment in the film where the "crazy uncles" are shooting at clays and the kid is loading the meechanical thrower. He is wearing a couple of kitchen hot pads strapped to his head as hearing protection. (Great movie, BTW) :)

The only time I ever ried o shoot clays was at police academy in FLETC, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga. We had to use Remington 870 police model shotguns and 00 buckshot. I think I only hit one clay that day. I was no stranger to the shotgun and had hunted pheasant in Korea during my year there. But shooting 00 buck in a 18 or 20 inch tube is not that easy. Even those that had shot clays before had a tough time.

Now if there are some clays that have a "exploding" center I can see that being a good distracting device in a few scenarios I am thinking of.
