I just ordered a box for my G29.

It seems like a great idea. The polymer ball facilitates expansion upon impact. Seems to solve the problem of a traditional HP round getting clogged and failing to expand.

Anyone used it before?

I tried it in .380.
Shot it into water jugs and captured the bullets with a box of rags.
Normally most JHP show a decent expansion.
The PB did not expand at all.
I'll stick with the old CorBon.

I have used Pow'RBall in one of my short barrel pistols because it would feed reliably. I use conventional hollow points if they work.

M2: I think lack of expansion in water might be a bit miss-leading, as they are designed to open up in a more viscous media, such as flesh. I think you would have the same issue with Federal EFMJs. Regarding the later, I've seen that they are very consistent expanders in ballistics gel and wet-packs for about 4-5 various independent "tests" so far.

I like Cor-Bon ammunition and have bought a bunch of it over the years. I carry a G29 as my CCW sidearm, so at one time or another I have considered the 10mm 135-gr Pow'R Ball load, along with other light bullets.

I just might like a 135-gr hybrid bullet which Cor-Bon claims is doing 1400-fps (from what barrel length I cannot determine) but I am not convinced I should switch to it.

I've stayed with 180-gr Gold Dots from my G29 that clock almost 1200-fps* over my chronograph (give me a much heavier bullet going only 200-fps slower every time, IMHO).

I would be most appreciative to hear what your opinion is after you test them! Please let me know, OK?

*Actual chrono readings were 1185-fps 17-fps ES <7-fps SD.

nitesite,

Velocities for our 10mm loads are from a G20.

Yes, that could be.

I think I'll just stick with "conventional" JHP though.:)

I'd agree with the assessment that both it and the EFMJ do better through a wet medium. However, they both seem to do better through drywall than standard hollowpoints like the Golden Sabre and its ilk, for whatever that's worth.

Other independent researchers' results can and probably will vary...:)

I've done no testing of it but the theory seems sound. Plus the idea of better/more reliable feeding in autos that may have a problem with JHP's. I've got them in my K40. Pretty high velocity as well.

My PM9 is loaded with PowRBall. The spare mag is loaded with DPX. What can I say, I am a Cor Bon fan. I also like DoubleTap ammo which, for the price, seems about unbeatable.

Interesting test over here: http://frag.110mb.com/

Not terribly scientific and the methods are suspect (what methods aren't?), but well written.

Even though the writer was not impressed with it, I would use the power ball without a second thought. It feeds perfectly in my M&P9c (at least the few dozen I have run through it, can't afford a bunch for testing), which can be very picky about JHP. Better to have a reliable feeding round than one that hangs up. YMMV.
